I am genuinely surprised at just how many people are finding this worth it and entertaining!

I will say that the first 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie was decent enough, but it really fell apart so quickly after that!

I've liked my fair share of crap movies, but this one was NOT one I could appreciate, even being a fan of the video games, fan of the other RE series with Milla Jovovich, and just a fan of the genre.

AND! The kicker was that I saw this essentially for free (As one of my reservations as an AMC A-List member)! Even with all that going for the movie, it still felt like a complete waste of my time!

To each their own...

Agreed. This is such a delight of a film on another rewatch.
Feels more like JC's The Fog and Prince of Darkness. Light on character, heavy on atmosphere.

Roberts has spoken about his love and admiration of Carpenter before and also in the visual language of this film.

It's evident in The Strangers: Prey at Night.

With this he cranked it to 11. I don't think I've seen something that's more of an appreciation for Carpenter.

Funny because he talked about trying that more on Prey at Night (in a great lengthy interview with Simon Brew on the Film Stories podcast) and really finding his voice on that film.

I'll give it a listen. I found Prey at Night was an ode to both JC and 80s slashers while his RE is nothing but Carpenter.

Looking forward to whatever he does next (hopefully a RE sequel).

Too bad Roberts didn't do a commentary on this one. Would have loved to hear him geek out over RE.

Wow what a surprise this movie was amazing in 4K!
I watched it 2 nights in a row and I never do that.

The atmosphere in my dark home theatre was amazing in the dark, raining outside. The neon lighting with shades of red lights, reflections everywhere, shiny 4K chrome of the trucks popping up glinting sparkling bright in the rain, what a treat. 5 star picture quality in my books.

I love movies with dark rainy atmosphere, and this movie had LOADs and was shot beautifully, inside and outside the mansion.

Yes. Rain drenched Raccoon City was captured wonderfully atmospheric. Same with the mansion, the RPD and the often unfairly overlooked orphanage.

Kaya was great. That was why I wanted to buy this regardless of how good it was. The picture was good, nothing amazing. The sound was top notch through my headphones during those creepy/scary scenes. 3 special features 5-10 minutes along, in 1080 SDR, same ones on both discs. I recommend only if you like the movie, I agree this one is probably better rented first.
I forgot to mention it, but this disc does have the popup when the credits start that you have to down arrow, and the special features start playing automatically after the credits are over. So Sony is still doing that on their discs.

Boo, thanks for letting me know though.

Now I wonder if I should import the US version but since Amazon is my only option, the whole thing costs around $60 with shipping and stupid taxes.

I enjoyed the movie but not sure that steelbook is worth so much. And let's be real: this is probably going to be $9.99 or less on Black Friday.

Decisions, decisions...

Got in my 4K & finally had a chance to watch this for the first time & I wrote this is movie section but will share it on here also:

Finally watched this today for the first time, was kind of looking forward to it since I thought it would be a much more faithful adaptation of the game series. I was wrong. This made the Alice movies, which I at least enjoyed, look like masterpieces. I’ve been a huge fan of the RE game series since it first came out on the PS1. I’ve played/owned every game, seen & own every movie (live action & CGI), named my oldest son after my favorite character in the series (Leon) & to say this movie was heartbreaking is an understatement. I don’t even care that the actors didn’t look like the game counterparts but they didn’t act anything like them either. The first 10-15 mins with Leon made him look like such a doofus & incompetent, the complete opposite of his game character. The only thing this movie got right was the look of things like the RPD building, the atmosphere with the zombies (even though there wasn’t enough of them) & the mansion keys that we only see one time. Even Lisa Trevor was nothing like she was in the RE1 remake.

Sorry about the rant but Resident Evil is my favorite game franchise & this might’ve been the last shot at getting it right on the big screen & they still got it so wrong. As another run of the mill zombie movie, it’s ok but as a Resident Evil movie I think it’s worse then the Alice films.

Indeed, I watched it again tonight on disc(for the first time), my love for it only grows. Also played the games and really feel like this captures the feel of them, loved the details like First Aid Spray posters. Always wanted John Carpenter to make an RE movie, I feel like these filmmakers felt the same way. I’m positive I’ll pull this one out more than the Alice movies.

Disc rocks btw, very aggressive atmospheric track.
