They didn't drop Vlad because his contract is guaranteed. They would love to get rid of him if they could.

Even spending as much as they have recently, the Yankees have not won a World Series in years. This off-season could start to look bad for them if Sabathia declines in performance or gets injured and counting on A.J. Burnett is like counting on Pavano.

Imagine what will happen if they fail to make the playoffs. They look good on paper, and will probably be picked to win it all but there was another team who was picked to win it all last season with a bunch of overpaid losers and things didn't work out as planned.

I almost want to see them win so I don't have to hear them complain and make excuses like the Tigers did last season.

I guess the good news is... the last time teams tried to spend their way to the playoffs... the 08 Tigers, Giants and Mariners had some issues lol.

There is always that one team who comes from no where and turns heads.

I predict the Royals being that team this year. May not make the playoffs... but I think they will be up there this year contending. Amazing young team and alot more fun to watch than a bunch of overpaid ego-maniacs.

I wonder how Smoltz felt about that Lowe deal! I hope the old guy has some juice left in that 42-yr old arm! I just heard a rumor that the Sox are looking at SS Michael Young - I hope that's true, he'd be much more desireable than Lugo.

Finally, owners are starting to think Salary Cap.

Hopefully someday see the Royals and Pirates compete like in the old days... and lets not turn this into a Yankees bashing... it's getting old. The Salary Cap is the topic here and the league being about the 30ish teams again!

Only issue i have with the yankees is them expecting the new york tax payers to foot 300 million in cost for their new stadium after spending close to a billion dollars on payroll!

Yeah exactly. I really hope things blow up on them after spending all that money honestly.

I have a problem with them and a few others just because there are soooo many teams that can not attract free agents now and it's not fair... and I don't mean the Bluejays so much as we do have a heathly 80-100million payroll... compared to many teams.

So, other big news besides the lack of a Manny signing (that's gratifying, but he cannot remain unsigned for too long, can he?) - The big one is Arod admitting today that he used steroids in 2003 (MVP season with Texas, failed test). I'm a Sox fan, so I will just report the headline and lay off any commentary that would just irk NY fans (I'm sure all teams have their fair share of steroids abusers, anyway)...

My feeling is he was great before then as has been better after it. Won 2 MVPs since then. Doesn't bother me at all. Am I surprised? Kinda, but I don't look at him any differently. Still gotta play the game and he's been consistent.
