Memory is a funny thing.

It's the Mandela effect. You were in an alternate universe then where different editing decisions were made before you slipped here.

[QUOTE=Riddhi2011;15102848]The original print colours look gorgeous to say the least. And as you were wanting the full width, here's the entire frame for you.

Enjoy the sheer goodness of photochemical 35mm film!

That second pic by the lake looks gorgeous .

This movie blew me away when i went to see it and I was stoned (but not these days). I can't pretend to remember how it looked at the time but it must have looked something like that as the cgi seemed seamless or maybe i wasn't used to seeing cgi at the time but either way, damn Universal. Why can't we get a nice print of this movie?!!

The first "memory" was in the trailer/tv spots. So that explains that part.

Perhaps the other was in the comic?

Given that the group that scanned the 35mm print of JP has had noted color problems on other releases, I wouldn't hold that up as a reference as to what the film looked like theatrically.

There were a lot of scenes I remember being different. Doesn't the T-Rex kill a brontosaurus' mother? Plus I'm pretty sure the film used to be animated. They must have processed the hell out of it to get it to look live action. And they also replaced the talking dinosaurs with human characters. And the title also used to be Land Before Time before they altered that too. Man this movie has been tinkered with to hell and back.

Okay so I have Jurassic Park Quadrilogy on blu-ray (the white case). Is this UHD set worth the price?

I have to agree with the inconsistent part. Even within each movie. Most of JP is only a slight improvement over the BD, but there are scenes that go soft either from the original negative degradation or heavy DNR that causes the picture to lose its sharpness. The DTS-X soundtrack is outstanding. It has a little more low end then the 7.1 soundtrack on the 3D disc. I still like the 3D better for the non-softened, non-DNR picture.

Jurassic World on the other hand, looked incredible.

Just finished watching III. You can say what you want about it, but it's a lot more analog looking compared to the BD which just looks too digital. There's still a bit off EE noticeable in some scenes, but it's reduced and there is better film grain and some finer detail. Color and skin tones nicely balanced. The highlights better as well and those peak whites better balanced. Not a great transfer by any means, but not a disaster and better than I expected.

That 35mm scan had the wrong colour grading applied. It was washed out, had pale, drained colours and black crush where there would be details in the actual cinema projection. And then it had light leakage problems. Hardly reference material. The problem with that version was they most likely did not use the correct 1993 projection lamps with the right luminance. They used modern lamps and then the scanner had its own colour temperature.

I'd trust StereoD a lot more because they actually ran a print from Spielberg and in his presence. Then they colour corrected the 4K scan to match it with the projected image. The reason it looks different and more blanket orange is because Rec 709 colour space and digital grading cannot produce the colour separation and shade variety like organic photochemical timing can. The results were close but still imperfect. The actual projected image looks less warm and more bright than the 3D version.

Watched the first 3 movies now. Jurassic Park & Lost World were upgrades, worth it.

Jurassic Park 3, nope. Definitely the weakest.

But The Mummy is not as good as Jurassic Park, the full franchise.
No way a zombie from the catacombs can compete with a T-Rex...that'll be the day.

The only good thing going for the Mummy franchise is ...

Main entrance @ 18 seconds.

So I watched Jurassic Park... yeah, haha.

I was definitely underwhelmed, even with my lowered expectations. It really didn't' look much better than the original Blu-Ray to me. I would have never thought it was a 4K disc just from looking at it, that's for sure.

This movie needs a complete Spielberg-supervised remaster-- maybe we'll get one in 5 years for the 30th anniversary? In the meantime, I'm considering picking up the 3D disc for the first film and going with that next time I feel like watching the movie.

^ Don't expect a newer, Spielberg-approved or faithful-to-the-original remaster before 2033 (40th anniversary). Better, don't expect a proper remaster at all! The less the expectation, the less the disappointment!

Sorry to hear about your tv settings. The 2011 BD doesn't even look like film, with its harsh and processed overall look.

Sorry, that's complete hogwash. The reason it looks different and more blanket orange is because they graded it to look different and more blanket orange.

Have watched the first three and am extremely disappointed.

1 looked quite good up close but but lots of scenes, especially wide shots were rough and very low res looking.

2 looked better overall but had some visible dnr and smoothing and had some pretty bad detail in the blacks, including ugly posterization.

3 just looked average all around. No detail, soft and smoothed and washed out.

Easily the three most disappointing UHD discs I’ve watched in my 150 or so.

The UHD doesn't have black crush, what it does have is much better contrast with shadows that are properly dark and not unnaturally brightened. It helps immensely (along with some nice use of HDR) in selling the t-rex sequence for example, I completely agree with Jason's post above:

I don't know about the second one - but eh leaf scene is from the trailer.

I played with some settings (I have European Samsung KS7000 which is the same as US KS8000) and JP looks the best (and closest to some shots posted here) with color saturation increased from 50 to 60 and dynamic contrast set to high which is ridiculous because this setting destroys every other movie with proper HDR grade.

I wasn't amazed watching it, it was OK and the best from all available editions, but the more I think about it, the more I look at some scenes the more angry I become about Universal's laziness.
