I don't know what comics Trank has read, because Sue was never a "slutty secretary" in the comics. It was obvious they would go with the Ultimate version of Sue, where she was a smart scientist, but he doesn't need to knock a Sue Storm he apparently has no idea about.
It was underplayed (in the sense that she had a fixed love interest, with the occasional Namor thrown in) but she was there only to be Reed's love interest at first (Stan Lee didn't even want to make too powerful, they gave her the force fields because some readers started asking why she was there at all), the thing is that in the years in the comics they fixed that but the initial flaw is still there.
Story's movies took that to the letter if I remember correctly, Sue is there only because she is with a guy (Doom at the start), not because she is someone qualified to be in space in the first place.

He's just exaggerating, no biggie.

Sue, in the early Lee/Kirby comics, was a "typical woman" as was common in comics at the time, due to it having been a male-dominated industry. Lee didn't write her very well, so she was often hysterical, would cry, and was there to be "the woman" that had to be saved or had to be told to shut up by Reed.

But she was never 'slutty.' Trank also makes it sound like 616 Sue lacked dignity and integrity, which just isn't true, especially when handled by Byrne or Waid. The early iteration of the character is bad because of the time, but as time and comics progressed, Sue became a powerful, more independent woman - there was even an arc that made her change her name from 'Invisible Girl' to putting the emphasis on 'Invisible Woman.'

Sue is really the "mom" of the FF -- she's the heart and soul of the team. But she's also the most powerful of the team. Even Doom learned to fear and respect her after he sent her son Franklin to Hell, and Sue messed Doom up, bad. Sure, there was a period in the 90s where she wore a costume that had a big "4" cutout that exposed parts of her breasts and made her look like a stripper (which was out of character), but that can be applied to the, uh, artistic styles of the time and the writer. She was never slutty, even with the Namor stuff, so I don't know what made Trank use that word.

Sue Storm has a sweet tooth for lifeguards and astronauts. Besides Namor, even Silver Surfer fell for her too. She should have stepped up and told Namor and Silver Surfer, "back off, Reed is my man!"

Looks like the human torch got burnt. Every time someone connected to this film opens their mouth, they're definitely not doing it any justice.

To be fair, Reed did have a habit of treating her like crap. He would under-appreciate her and often overlook due to getting lost in his science and his projects. But other men pursuing her was on them, not her. Even if she would entertain the idea or appreciate the attention of others, she's never done anything "slutty" that I can recall. Even if he was exaggerating, really odd and unfounded thing for Trank to refer to the character in that way.

'Slutty secretary' was probably just some sort of (poorly phrased, to be sure) short-hand for a typical male wish fulfillment character. Think of it in terms of Halloween costumes and it might more sense...slutty nurse, slutty vampire, slutty cop and so forth and so on.

A lot of female characters - particularly in the olden days - were basically there to be love interests and/or damsels in distress. Hell, in the early days Wonder Woman got tied up in every other panel.

I like his comments about the tone and style. Sounds more up my alley than Marvel's stuff often is, especially Avengers.

Everyone is different!

Ah crap. For dummies like me, this is a comic book spoiler for the newest issue of New Avengers. Click accordingly. (If you read comics)

Interesting. I'm a few issues behind on Avengers & New Avengers but that doesn't sound entirely bad. I always liked him but I was assuming it was going to be an entirely new baddie.

I like Miles Teller and Kate Mara a lot, but I'm still not sure about this one.
