Story's movies took that to the letter if I remember correctly, Sue is there only because she is with a guy (Doom at the start), not because she is someone qualified to be in space in the first place. |

But she was never 'slutty.' Trank also makes it sound like 616 Sue lacked dignity and integrity, which just isn't true, especially when handled by Byrne or Waid. The early iteration of the character is bad because of the time, but as time and comics progressed, Sue became a powerful, more independent woman - there was even an arc that made her change her name from 'Invisible Girl' to putting the emphasis on 'Invisible Woman.' Sue is really the "mom" of the FF -- she's the heart and soul of the team. But she's also the most powerful of the team. Even Doom learned to fear and respect her after he sent her son Franklin to Hell, and Sue messed Doom up, bad. Sure, there was a period in the 90s where she wore a costume that had a big "4" cutout that exposed parts of her breasts and made her look like a stripper (which was out of character), but that can be applied to the, uh, artistic styles of the time and the writer. She was never slutty, even with the Namor stuff, so I don't know what made Trank use that word. |

'Slutty secretary' was probably just some sort of (poorly phrased, to be sure) short-hand for a typical male wish fulfillment character. Think of it in terms of Halloween costumes and it might more sense...slutty nurse, slutty vampire, slutty cop and so forth and so on.
A lot of female characters - particularly in the olden days - were basically there to be love interests and/or damsels in distress. Hell, in the early days Wonder Woman got tied up in every other panel. |

Interesting. I'm a few issues behind on Avengers & New Avengers but that doesn't sound entirely bad. I always liked him but I was assuming it was going to be an entirely new baddie.
