I saw this last night and I don't know what the critics were smoking but there was nothing "amazing" about it. Typical by the numbers cliche ridden modern horror flick. I did enjoy it but I doubt I would have any desire to watch it again. Loved the cinematography though.

There's a moment at the beginning of IT, during the Georgie boat scene, that puts my hair up on end.

It's when Pennywise is laughing and talking in the goofy voice ("popcorn...pop, pop, pop!") while the amused Georgie is looking into the sewer, but then Pennywise just suddenly gets quiet and the happy spark disappears from his eyes.

That quick but subtle transition from happy to dark was executed brilliantly and conveyed to me that I was dealing with something murderously evil which has no other intent except to utterly consume and destroy all meaning of life.

This Pennywise wasn't scary? Get the fxxk out.

1. I think this was something new just for the movie. I didn't care for the idea at all.

I feel this movie captured all the "main" bullet points but didn't really add much inbetween. I wouldn't mind seeing a longer cut of the movie that adds more character development for the kids.

Wow, they should've kept that in the film.

Switchblade? Back in the 60's, yeah, that was the thing. Made more sense from a story standpoint than the new movie.

Cussing? Part of what I thought was wrong with the new movie was the sheer amount of cussing coming from the kids. Too much for my tastes.

Backstory of characters. Beep beep, Ritchie. Made more sense from the 90s version. Overall, the 90s version had much more backstory to help fill in the gaps with the movie. The new one ... not so much.

Scares? Nah, neither one.

Pennywise. I think some of the scenes from the new one were better. But, overall, the 90s version just made him more of a threat.

Anyway, the new one did well, so that's a good thing. Means we'll get some more horror movies coming along.

Probably why BEEP BEEP RITCHIE is only used one time and it's more a scare tactic?

Also, since I was exactly the same age as these kids in 1989, you are f*cking nuts to think there was TOO MUCH swearing. There wasn't enough. Man, did my brothers and I have potty mouths. It's when you're on your own and you think swearing makes you cool. Those kids sounded exactly like we did as kids of the late 80s.

I sure did. Couple of other things I noticed that others may not have:

[Show spoiler]When Ben's reading in the library, you can see the librarian standing in the background, grinning at him. She's out-of-focus, but it's a subtle, creepy little detail.

When Henry's walking towards his mailbox with the balloon attached, he's got a huge wet patch on his crotch. Poor guy must've pissed himself when his father fired at his feet.

I noticed her sitting at her desk on the other side of the frame, so I thought it was Pennywise disguised as her, but it wouldn't make sense for him to look like her that close to her. Maybe it was just two women who looked similar dressed alike.

Did anyone else notice this?

I mean, I get it, because I'm a seasoned horror fan who is never actually "scared" while watching a movie, but I still found IT to be quite eerie and tense.

1. The scene where Eddie sees Pennywise and the triangle of balloons by the house on Neibolt Street is awesome horror cinema through and through. Everything was spot-on perfect with that scene.

2. The later scene, with the whole gang in the house on Neibolt Street, was so effective as a haunted house scenario that it quickened my pulse in a big way. The filmmakers did not miss a beat here.

3. The real "scary" horror of IT, of course, is the human element. Beverly's dad, Henry Bowers's father, etc. The movie conveyed these things pretty nicely.

4. Since I myself was frequently bullied as an overweight kid during my childhood, I love the way that the movie captured that "oh sh*t" moment when Ben first sees Henry and the gang waiting for him after he leaves the library.

5. The most unrelenting horror moment in IT was the first bloody scene in Beverly's bathroom. Just the sheer amount of blood caught me off-guard. It was almost like a throwback to the prom scene in Carrie.

Come on bro you didn't put The Exorcist in your Top 50 Horror list and even you know it's considerd one of if not the greatest horror films of all time and one of the scariest. This IT was laughable in the scare department. Even the music was awful.

You do realize not everyone likes the same things, right? And that some of us don't care if critics call something "the greatest of all time", right? I saw The Exorcist once and hated it. That movie wasn't scary at all. Plus, I'm an atheist, so the whole Catholics & crosses just doesn't do anything for me. Exorcist, horrible. IT, awesome.
