I can't stop thinking about this scene now.

When Pennywise was laughing and playing with Georgie I felt happy, warm, and playful inside. I even felt emotionally connected with them both. But the cherfulness stoped and the darkness came. Then I remembered and thought to myself, "oh yeah, this is a bad guy." At that moment I was genuinely let down. Not because the movie had failed, oh no, but because my cherfulness had been taken away. That is success on the filmmakers part and to that I say bravo.

I gave this film a 4 on the voters poll, but the more I think and talk about it I think it deserves a 5.

I need to watch this again.

I liked the score in this film quite a bit. How was it awful?

In the sense that it added NOTHING to the scare factor.

Fair enough. The only times I noticed the music were times when I found myself enjoying it, so I need to hear it again.

I don't know how I ended up naked covered with Vaseline, but it must be a good sign.

Some of the best horror movie scores of all time barely even allude to the fact that they were written for a "scary movie"...listen to Pino Donaggio's lyrical Carrie, or Jerry Goldsmith's beautiful Poltergeist. I'd rather have a horror score filled with melody than the usual collection of banging noises that passes for "film music" these days.

2. In the novel, Henry is accompanied by Belch and Victor when he follows The Losers Club into the sewer. Obviously this was changed for the film, but in Dauberman's revised script (which is very close to the shooting one), the boys are killed by Henry off-screen and seen in the back of the car when Henry rolls up outside the house on Neibolt Street.

From the script:

The Boys drop their bikes on the lawn. They stare at the
house that looms before them. This is It.
As they walk up toward their probable deaths, they fail to
notice Vic’s Trans Am appear at the end of Neibolt.
Creeping along, like a lion in tall grass.

INT. VICTOR’S TRANS AM - CONTINUOUS

Travis slows to a stop.

TRAVIS
Like lambs to a slaughter, wouldn’t
you say fellas?

He looks over at Victor in the Passenger Seat and Belch in
the back. They’re both dead. Throats slit into gaping grins.

TRAVIS (CONT’D)
Yeah, sure you would.
Thanks for posting this. I'm hoping this is included as a longer cut for blu ray.

The CGI was too much. It took me out of the scenes more often than not.

This movie reminded me why I hate going to wide release horror movies opening weekend. I hate the teenagers that feel the need to constantly talk through a movie! The one time I was happy to be near the front of the screen, because all the chatter was behind and no cell phones being pulled out to distract my viewing experience.

I agree! I really enjoyed it, and all the Pennywise scenes worked for me until they CGI'ed him!

From what I see, SarahS is just trolling. Didn't they go in wanting to hate this movie?

The score was fantastic.

I enjoyed the film, and I have never seen the TV mini-series or read the book.

I think I may have missed a background joke, so tell me if you know what I'm talking about:
[Show spoiler]There was a scene where I think the kids are together in town - on a paved road - and Richie must be doing something funny in the background. I heard people laugh in the audience, but it did not seem connected to the scene happening in front or what I was focused on. Any idea what I may be talking about?

It's funny that you say that because as I was watching it I thought that this was NOT your typical horror film but something special. The characters were so rich, something we don't often see in today's fare. The villain wasn't "forced" but felt real and unique. This movie was a feast, full of great characters, tension filled moments, heart, comedy....everything.

Exactly. IT was so well done, it would have worked fine with a human villain, kinda like Stand By Me. Pennywise was just the crazy icing on top of an already delicious cake.

(And yes, Dally, the cake is moist... )

[Show spoiler]Richie stole a horn from one of the marching band players, and refuses to give it back. They're struggling with it in the background. The band member gets it back at the end and says "the f**k's wrong with you?" To Richie. Or Richie says it to the band member.

Look at how good the kids were in part 1, and we've never heard of any of them before, except Finn, aka "that kid from Stranger Things". They don't need stars, they just need good actors. I'd much rather see a cast of mostly unknowns than any of the names being suggested.
I know Jaedan from Midnight Special.

I really enjoyed this. Cast was excellent. The only very minor issue I had was Mike's limited role. The wait for Chapter 2 will be unbearable.
