Totally agree! I always thought a better opening scene would have been Tori Spelling playing herself and being murdered and that’s the reason they had to replace her. Cotton still could have died later in the movie and had a bigger role. I can’t imagine Tori would have said no to doing that.

interesting. I remember being disappointed in 3. Later found out it was completely rewritten after Columbine - it was supposed to be something different.

It was originally supposed to be written by Williamson and be the return to Woodsboro that pt 4 (and pt5 did again, sigh) used. Once Williamson told them he couldn't deliver in the short amount of time they wanted, they went with Ehren Kruger (who's awful) and a Hollywood plot as that's what Wes and the Weinsteins wanted anyway.

Columbine is the reason the movie has no edge to it. It's a very safe slasher movie that Wes admitted later that he regretted.

I do wonder how it would of been like had that tragic day didn’t happen. Like more gore? Etc but I still like the one we got.

Not to me because 4 is the true outlier and the only Scream movie I openly dislike.

I do not understand what people see in Scream 3......

It's a terrible movie with a focus more on lame jokes than anything else, and has one of the most brain-dead retcons in horror history.
[Show spoiler]And 5 trying to one-up it doesn't make it better.

I mean, 4 isn't that good but it's mountains above the dumpster fire of 3.

Isn't she just ranking her experiences filming them? Hasn't she openly admitted that she hates horror and doesn't actively watch the genre? Haha!

I love Ms. Campbell, but I'm just saying...

2-1-4/5-3 always.

Thats also just a picture of her signing an autograph with a quote attributed to her... without any real reason to think she actually said it. It's a post from some dude on Facebook lol.

I'm starting to think Neve hasn't even seen the new one. And putting 3 over ANY of the movies is insane. 4 is the closest they've come to recapturing any of 1 and 2.

For you maybe, but for me and many other fans 4 is the one sequel that doesn’t look or feel like a true Scream movie. 5 captured the feeling of the first two for me.

4 is literally part 5 11 years earlier.

Other than a return to Woodsboro I really don’t see that much in common. Even the trope of films they are sending up is different due to changing times, requels vs remakes

Let’s think of all things about Scream 4 that make it the weakest sequel - ugly cinematography that makes it feel far removed from the other 4 movies in the franchise, goofy ass deaths with people spouting jokes and one-liners as they’re BRUTALLY SLAUGHTERED, both Gale and Dewey feel like different characters and are basically wasted, Judy Hicks and her silly pratfalls, an absolutely corny hospital finale, unlikable new characters, Kate’s goofy face as she dies, too much footage deleted from the final product….I could go on and on.

Sure, things like Jill’s motive and her going crazy at the end are great but when there are too many other bad things surrounding it, the good stuff is diluted. I feel confident that if they had stuck with Williamson’s original script and the Weinsteins hadn’t tampered with it so much, Scream 4 would have been one of my favorite sequels. Instead it was just massively disappointing to me. I also feel Wes just wasn’t into it and didn’t really care at that point, it feels passionless.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t WANT to hate Scream 4 because I love this franchise so much, but I also have high expectations for it and Scream 4 dropped the ball big time as far as I’m concerned. I’m just so happy Scream ‘22 came along and restored my love and faith in the Scream franchise and I can’t wait for more.
