That being Friday the 13th, Part 3? If so, will add it to the collection.

Sorry to hear about your eye problems. I too do a hot water treatment every day because of stye’s and rothesay. Very fortunate to still have better than 20-20 vision (with correction).

Yep, part 3.

I hate wearing glasses, the reflections drive me nuts and are now spoiling my VR experiences.

Glad to read your vision is so good. That’s always a huge positive.

U.S. consumers are opting for bigger TVs

(and I hope upgraded audio systems to go with these bigger TVs)

My cheapest Surround Sound system, under $10 for the stereo headphone mini jack and I had the Pioneer receiver and Polk speakers sitting around unused. Fortunately, the speakers for the surround channel aren't too loud.

I remember my first surround sound AVR. Had 2 rear channels but they were mono (both the same signal.) I believe it was called Dolby Surround and was just before Pro Logic.

Pro Logic also had mono rear channels but gave you a center channel that was unfolded from the original stereo track. Dolby Surround predated that and matrixed a center channel (as well as the rear mono speakers) from the original stereo mix.

It wasn’t until Dolby Digital or AC-3 where you had separate rear signals.

Judging by Black Friday ads, I don't think you can even buy a TV under 50 inches anymore.

Meanwhile I've still got my 60" 1080p plasma wondering when the 4K OLEDs would be affordable enough for an upgrade. Plus a 4K receiver since mine only does passthrough.

Going from a 60" to a 42" is a big step down. I know. I have a 55" in my living room and just added a 43" in my bedroom. It's tiny in comparison.

By 1972 I had a Heathkit AR-29 receiver, a Crown DC-300 amp (still in everyday use), a Crown IC-150 pre-amp, 2 Scott speakers for rear and 2 AR-3a’s for front speakers. A friend had a Sony 4 channel ¼" reel-to-reel tape deck. From time to time we would get our gear together for a discrete quad party. Later I procured a Teac A-3340 for myself.

Also designed and built myself a box that contained a Sansui QS, Columbia SQ, and Dolby Surround decoders. Also had pseudo stereo from mono. Big stuff in those days, as soon as I paid off an equipment loan I would make another.

Yeah, I think it will be a bedroom tv for most.

I can't imagine even noticing that change as I use a 127" 2.40:1 screen which is around 100" in 16:9 mode.

I often want to change out my projector for a direct view set (for better HDR) and I don't think I will mind going to a small screen like 85" but I do think I'll mind when a movie like Jaws has black bars. Of course a TON of movies have Variable Aspect Ratio and that's something to keep track of.

And to think my first bedroom TV was a Sony 14" 4:3 set, which lasted for years and years. How times change. Not a great size for watching a film with an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 unfortunately.

Personally I'm very happy with my 28" screen. It sits less than two feet from my eyes and fills up most of my field of view. I only wish I could get an OLED around that size.

That’s the only screen you have?

It's my primary screen. I have a 55" TV as well but mainly just use it for multiplayer video games. Since I sit farther away from it it looks smaller than the 28".

I prefer using smaller closer screens because my close-up vision is excellent so everything looks better when it's closer.

That’s genuinely surprised me. Had you down as a projector guy for some reason.
