Because financially and critically, it was the peak.

But more often than not, people aren't talking about finance. They're questioning whether or not this'll be better than Skyfall. All I'm saying is that I don't understand why people treat Skyfall like it's the cinematic equivalent of receiving sexual favours from Jesus. It's a great film but I can think of plenty of Bond films better than it.

There was just a really nice confluence of events leading up to Skyfall that made it so huge. I like Skyfall a lot but I agree it's not the best Bond (or even Craig's best), but in the general public's eye - thanks to the box office and Oscars and Adele and 50th Anniversary and so on - it's the new standard. So I get why people treat it like the Holy Grail; I don't agree with it, but I get it.

This, word for word are my feelings towards Skyfall. Bravo Sir.

Well apart from the part about liking it a lot. I like it a bit. Mainly Deakins work.

Because Skyfall is not only as good as Casino Royale, but it is also one of the best Bond movies of all time. Skyfall is ranked in at #4 for me for the Bond franchise. It is to the Bond franchise what The Dark Knight is to the super hero franchise. It put plot and characters over action. It has some of the best cinematography of the entire franchise. The villain, while not as great as Blofeld, is the best villain since Sanchez.

It's one of the most boring Bond films ever made.

You must not have watched anything from Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan then. Now those are boring Bond films. Sure, The Man with the Golden Gun is a good movie, but it drags on way too much.

Apart from the clearly Nolan-influenced sections, I like Skyfall quite a bit. I just hope now that it set everything up and put all the classic Bond pieces in place, we can start going back to formula. Reviews so far seem to indicate Spectre is doing that, so I'm optimistic.

Certain things for certain films I have to know ahead of time. Spoilers don't bother me. Never had. In this case, I was leery of SPECTRE from the start. I wanted to know more before I went in.

Still seeing it but I know I'm probably gonna be pissed at this one. But, I could change my mind.

The fact Skyfall is now seen as the pinnacle of Bond movies makes me so sad.

So ... eh ... your sky is falling?

I still haven't seen it, I'm waiting for the hype to die down. I might give it a go in a few years.

If this thread (and the forum as a whole) is any indication, Skyfall is a love-it-or-hate-it film.

I'd say the hype has died down. As with any popular/successful movie, there's been backlash (not as much as some bigger movies, but especially on these forums, the backlash is definitely there).

It's funny as I couldn't wait to see Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, but I've had the BDs for Skyfall since day one and have never had any desire to watch them. It's probably the longest I've ever gone without watching a Bond movie that's been available.

Well now that the new one's coming out, there's no time like the present
If for no other reason, give Skyfall a spin for some of the best A/V currently available (hopefully I'm not building the hype back up).

Just re-watched Dr. No. Love this film. I've never understood why it doesn't get more recognition beyond being 'the one where it all began.' It's more serious and low-tech compared to those that followed but I guess that's what I like about it.

It's a cracking spy caper without any bloody gadgets is what it is. Hews very closely to the book too (though they prettied up Honeychile's busted nose, to be sure). If only we could've seen more of those on the big screen, *le sigh* (more-than-honourable mention for OHMSS).

People don't like book Bond, they like Roger and Peirce
