The only thing that the miniseries did better was show the friendship between the losers. They were all really close in it, but the new film is all about Bill, Ritchie and Beverly.

I gave this two stars when I initially saw it on Friday, but now I'd give a three star rating the more I've thought about it. I could see it getting better with repeat viewings.

Almost everything about it made it seem cartoony. Not just the sub-par CGI, but the bullies, the parents, Pennywise (and his different forms)--there was no subtlety. They dialed it up right from the rip, so it just felt over the top and in your face. I was hoping the movie was going to be creepy at least, but I found it more silly than anything because it was so unrealistic.

My thoughts exactly! I did notice they'd make Greta Mr. Keane's daughter, but I didn't mind the alteration.

Lol this should be marketed as a horror comedy, because it's equally both. I got more audible laughs out of this than most comedies of late.

To me, I am fine with the changes. One of my favorite movies ever, Jurassic Park is DRASTICALLY different from the novel. If the movie is good, I'm fine.

Now, with what Cary Fukunaga wanted to do with IT?

I agree with some of this sentiment but I did love how they handled Henry and his dad, that was really the only part horror-wise that I felt approached the tone of what made the novel really special. It felt like an excerpt from a braver less-commercial adaptation rather than the Losers Club vs the last 30 seconds of any Blumhouse movie. I think one scene between Beverly and her dad was about on that level but much of the rest veered toward cartoony.

Yup. I think the film did a remarkable job of not only staying true to the essence of the book, but also hand-picking what was good about the Fukunaga/Palmer drafts, whilst incorporating new material in keeping with the novel. I've got a few qualms, of course - I'm not sold on Mike's altered backstory, and Patrick Hockstetter is pretty much the character in name only - but they're minor in the grand scheme of things.

I just watched a direct to VoD clown horror movie that just came out called Circus Kane (I don't recommend it), and that was full of New Kids On the Block jokes, too. Must be something in the zeitgeist.

Art is subjective. Just because they may not agree with you, doesn't mean their opinion is any less valid. I've watched movies with many friends and family members and each person leaves with their own unique opinion.

I didn't think it was bad. When I think of bad CGI, I think of those movies on the Syfy channel. The CGI shots were obvious, but still well done. Just my .02.

Thanks, that's what I personally already perceive as bad CGI. Hopefully it won't pull me out of the moment
