No one can predict the future, it all depends on values. at one time everyone travelled by horse and buggy but cars did not require the same maintenance and work and could travel faster... and because cars had all the advantages they soon took over and now no the old horse and buggy as a real way of transport has disappeared. But I must agree with Lee on this. since the 70's (if not earlier) small portable TVs have existed. Society could have easily gone the route where we all have our own TVs decades ago, the same way we, for the most part, we all have our individual phones today. Yes sometimes I am by myself in my HT watching a movie but there is a reason I sacrificed a room and spent so much on an HT because there are other times when there are over 20 people in there enjoying a film together or a sporting event.

Which people could again Anthony. If we get to the stage of these things replacing all screens, that would mean nearly everyone has one. Everyone will be able to see each other and share the same film if they so choose. The screen could be locked in position and would stay there. For example, you could keep your virtual screen in your family room and everyone could see the same screen and the same film in their glasses. You can make the screen any size you want. Take off the glasses and the. Put them back on and the virtual screen would be in the same place every time unless you wanted a private viewing and could then move the screen around.

Does not work for me, I want to know what I own, plan to order, have watched and plan to watch. I was the only person that I saw at a rental store with a printed list. Started keeping records with a Timex Sinclair 1000Commodore 64 → IBM PC (many versions). About 13 years ago switched from FileExpress (DOS) to Movie Collector (Windows), scanned in my collection with a bar code scanner. Did the same with my CD music collection.

I think many people also run the TV in the background, when they are doing other things. And TVs are used for different uses, like TV, Streaming, Console Gaming. Also I think that People will always feel the need to structure their home environment with certain furniture. I would guess a TV will be part of it for quite a while.

And they could continue doing things in the background. What would stop them?

Console gaming? They would use the glasses as a giant screen for the console. Remember, you can still see the real world through the glasses.

On the other hand my physical media collection will be shipped with rest of my belongings to Australia.

Stay away from digital movie purchases they are nothing more than indefinite rentals. You have no control, you own nothing. It's foolish for a film fan who spends a lot of money on movies to hand over control of his collection to a big corporation who can deny access at any moment for any reason.
You won’t lose your library. If you change your country on your iTunes account from UK to Australia then titles specific to the UK store will not appear in your library. If you switch back to UK store they will reappear. Accounts on iTunes are not Geo locked. I have a Singapore and US account. You can switch between them seamlessly on the TV OS.

Adding a little bit more :

If the same movie share the same IDs between country its will play to your new country as well.

I am from Canada and I bought movies that will also play on the Usa Itunes.

Direct exemple I bought on Canadian store : Event horizon 4k.

ID : 306163996

Same on both Usa and Can itunes.

Its will play on the usa and can side.

I don’t think someone would like to wear glasses in such cases. No one liked doing so regarding 3D, so why should they regarding AR? Also: I wear regular glasses and it’s always a hassle to wear 3D glasses on top of regular glasses. Would that be any different with AR or VR?

People will wear them if the benefits are enormous. Also, we all know how the masses are like sheep. The more people wear them, the more will follow.

I have had VR since launch date and the headset (PSVR) supports glasses with ease. It has a slider that can be adjusted to accommodate glasses. Some headsets are not so good but you can buy lens inserts that allow you to remove your glasses.

For AR, it’s the same. Apple’s AR glasses will support prescription lenses, no way will Apple have people wearing two pairs of glasses. It’s not their way and It looks ridiculous.

Plus, 3D blocks out the light, AR allows you to see the real world. Very different. There are already tens of millions who wear glasses.

I keep records of every single film I have seen in Excel along with ratings. Done this since 2000. (When I started collecting Blu-ray)
I also backtracked and listed all my DVDs.

I even have 3D strength ratings!

That is dedication to a passion right there. The only thing I do is put a note in the My Movies app with volume and channel levels for movies I own. Problem is I have switched out gear enough to make that somewhat useless and more of a jumping off point only. The app itself is pretty easy to keep track of a collection though.

You tried to explain it before, and I still don't get it. I don't see that magical advantage you somehow think "fixed screen" will get you. The disadvantage of an HT is that I have a room with three rows of seats all staring at a blank screen with my seat being at the sweetest spot. That room and that layout was sacrificed for the best movie experience. The nice thing about glasses IMHO is that the room should not matter. I am taken away into the film verse so, like my living room the seating can be couches facing each other and art on the wall without a blank screen where each person sits in the sweet spot. The minute I need an HT with the same set up and inconveniences what do glasses bring to the party. Except (if I think of myself growing up) you lose or brake them and then you are without glasses for a week.

hope you did not take my comments out of context. There are many people that do have movie lists and good for them. I was just adding to what Vilya had said for why some people do not.

It takes a true fan to start collecting Blu-ray 6 years before it's been released!

I have no problem with that. My 87 year old father with heart and lung problems lives with us and I have seen too many other people die from this. I don't allow anyone that does not live here inside the house and none of us visit anyone else's homes. But one day things will get back to normal and there will be more BBQs and movie parties at my place for friends and family.

Steedeel strikes again. 2000-2008 for DVD and then 2008 onwards Blu-ray. Getting my DVD and Blu-ray launches muddled.

I’m really sad. I even award the top 5 films I saw that year with a gold star next to the winner and Silver for the other 4.
