(Adding to) Home Theater Database and Wiki System Help Thread

Not sure if it can be done, as thousands of movies are already in the database. And it may mean changing a lot.

I have just gotten Navy Seals, site here said it had Traditional Chinese (Complex Mandarin). It doesn't It has Cantonese. This is not the first time this has happened. I know mistakes happen, but I feel this site is very, very accurate (nothing like Amazon or YesAsia). For many movies, I can buy here in Taiwan, at a premium, and get the subtitles my wife needs. As all, I like to save money and if I can get it from Amazon, all the better. Hoping we can make the information here more accurate.

I think I have one solution. Change the subtitles from Chinese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional) to Cantonese, Mandarin (Simplified), Mandarin (Traditional). Being a little more exact may help when people are inputting the info. Some people may not know that Chinese could be Mandarin or Cantonese, hence the mix up.

Some studios will print Cantonese, Mandarin (Traditional or Simplified) on their cases. Some still just print Chinese, very frustrating, not clear, too vague.

Cantonese - Chinese from Hong Kong and surrounding areas. Similar to written Traditional Mandarin except for some vocabulary, slang and idioms.

Mandarin (Simplified) - Chinese that has been used in Mainland China since the 50's, the number of strokes used to form each character was decreased, heard it was done to help eradicate illiteracy. I've only come across a few Blu-rays with Simplified Mandarin.

Mandarin (Traditional) - Chinese used in Taiwan now and used by many overseas Chinese residents, and used in China before the 50's. Sometimes referred to as Complex Mandarin.

Having a standard set in place for distinguishing between the 3 Chinese subtitles should be Cantonese, Mandarin (Simplified), and Mandarin (Traditional or Complex).

I've been to both the Hong Kong area and Mandarin speaking parts of China, so I'm aware of Mandarin and Cantonese myself
The only reason we chose to use "Chinese" was because that's how a lot of covers are labeled and simply easier to use

I agree that what you suggest is more correct and more specific, so I made the changes you suggested:
Chinese -> Cantonese
Chinese (Simplifed) -> Mandarin (Simplified)
Chinese (Traditional) -> Mandarin (Traditional)

Let me know if you have any other good ideas

I have A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More, they are the same as the Hong Kong releases, both by Delta Mac, same cover art, etc. Is there a way to add it to the database using the previous movie's data-sheet and then just edit the differences? or do I need to re-type and re-enter everything?

yes. the forum doesn't seem to like too long url's. i fixed them for you right now. they should work just fine now. the only thing is that i cannot insert you the pages of the titles here in Blu-Ray.com
