I've probably read the book 20 times. I bought it for my wife for her birthday. If "clarity" means "simplistic" and "child and parent friendly" and "flapping jaw animated radio", then I agree.

I knew I shouldve bought in in-store. Preordered it instead from Amazon and havent gotten it yet. I am really excited to see it.

A couple of you guys have mentioned it already, but I am curious to know where Returns falls on your ranking of the DCUA movies.

I've only seen three...Public Enemies (horrible, couldn't finish it), Batman vs. Dracula (again, horrible, couldn't finish it), and Year One (disappointed, pacing was off, felt - again - like animated radio).

I've heard good things about Red Hood. I loved Mask of the Phatasm, even if the animation was crap. I respected Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker more than I enjoyed it.

Very Escape From New York John Carpenter soundtrack.
Own this CD, and EFNY is my all time favorite movie! I may just have to cancel everything today and watch this. I was already thrilled, but now I'm beyond anxious to see/hear it!

I'm definitely excited to watch this tonight. Have to keep my speakers turned down though, which is the joy of having two little ones at home

Hehe, very nice! I've got an almost 2yr old...thankfully he sleeps like a log! So I do have a little "wiggle" room for nighttime viewings!

Heck I'm gonna try and watch this TODAY, if at all possible!!!

So are you saying the whole movie has synthesizer for music? If so, that would be a great tribute to the 80's.

Most of it. Its understated at times and prominent at times.

Theyve kept The Mutants in the Punk 80's/Electro style.

The John Carpenter-esque sound is a great addition and great sound decision.
The could have easily done the over-churned "Nolan-style" sound that most have employed or that terribly ubiquitous "Metal-Light" w/ Soundgarden-esque vocals ala The Avengers.

Super-Hero Film Rock sucks.

At the Paley Center screening I went to Monday night, Christopher Drake and Bruce Timm both talked about the music for TDKR-P1. It was Drake who wanted to place the music in the same era as when the book debuted in '86. He went so far as to hunt for original and antique synthesizers to use for recording his score. Timm said Drake first considered analog music when they worked together on Year One, but said it didn't feel right but thought it would work much better whenever they worked on TDKR.

I was gonna get this the other night, but decided to go with the Best exclusive for The Avengers. You think Best Buy will price match Amazon?

That's just great news! As someone who grew up in the 80's I can't wait to see all of this come together! Already this is sounding(see what I did there?) like it will shoot to #1 on my DCU list!
A shame I didn't get time today to watch...will definitely happen tonight!!

For those disappointed in the lack of a commentary track, Kevin Smith has done for us!

I thought so too, until I saw it in person. In all the copies I looked at, the figure's head didn't fit the body properly. The back of the head should be flush but instead is raised up off the body so it looks like poor Bats is half decapitated. I was planning to buy one but ended up opting for a regular edition because that figure wasn't worth a fiver.

As far as "alternate continuity" is concerned - in a world where DC continuously retcons their shit every 5 years, the world's greatest Batman story is the only continuity that matters.

As a huge fan of the original Graphic Novel this is a hit and miss. Visually its very faithful. I miss the narration from Batman and the little changes I think are there so they can broadcast it on Cartoon Network down the line.

If I rate the Comic as an A this is a C version of it.

Just finished it. Loved it. The best DCAU movie behind Doomsday for me. Can't wait for Part 2!

Watched it a 2nd time today. Liked it even more this time. Definitely the best animated Batman movie I've ever seen. I think I like it even better than Nolan's TDKR. The animated movie just handles the "retirement/back in the game phase" much better imo. 5/5 stars. Can't wait for Part 2

Kevin Smith calls it out on the commentary track and says he loves seeing it in motion - even cried when he saw Carrie and Bruce exchange glances - but also says the missing narration was going to be very controversial, and brings it up again and again as he's watching it. We're not fetish completionists, the internal dialog is the heart of the book.
