Apparently Lebron James is producing a new Friday the 13th, the news came out only last week I think.

I don't think that's official (unless something changed in the last few days). There was mention that he was interested in doing it but I think F13th is still in limbo at the moment.

So, this goes back to my point. Paramount can't lose with this. If they are really nervous about lack of interest, they can create a special crowdfunded project, where they can gauge the interest and avoid over-producing their inventory.

Look at what was done with this 3-D conversion, without Paramount's involvement. There's no way that Paramount couldn't create a way for the fans to back such a project, to avoid any unforeseen losses.

Maybe it just comes down to a company deciding that some profits aren't worth the time and energy involved in producing them? That's the only reasoning I can see behind Paramount not pursuing this.

Yep folks Google is your friend.... If your struggling to find this...Think literally about it... Clue... Its a Russian source and its legit... Its stunning and as good as it gets!!!... .simply go to Google and translate the title Friday the 13th 3d 1080p into Russian... Then use your common sense. If you're incapable of doing this, put your computer back in its box.

Unfortunately I think there are several factors working against this:
1)3D seems to be a dying format in the USA. They've stopped producing 3D compatible TV's and many studios (ie: Disney) aren't even releasing the discs here (even though they are still making them in other areas).
2)Restoration costs vs. profits. I don't know what resources they have available to them or how much money would be involved in them producing this, but they may not see it as a worthwhile endeavor. YES, we all would buy it, but I wonder how many copies they would actually sell??
3)The legal fight that's going on with the F13th franchise? Again...I don't know specifics as to whether or not this could impede production, but perhaps that's another reason for them to just forget about putting money into this.

I hope I'm wrong and we eventually see a proper release of this movie. We've all been wanting it for so long and it was one of the main gripes that purchasers of the "F13th: Complete Collection tin set" had. As much as everyone loved the set, the two complaints were: 1)no Part III in 3D and 2)no Unrated JGTH. You would think that both of these would be an easy sell for Paramount/New Line, yet we still don't have either.

Here's a detailed blog post about the rights issues surrounding the Friday the 13th franchise.

Yes, but that's point of making it crowdfunded. If the goal is reached, then it's reached. They will have guaranteed sales from the pledges so they'll know that the costs are covered.

I don't even think they need a full-on restoration. Look at what someone did online with very little resources.

Once they had the master made, they could essentially produce them on demand, like the Warner Archive Collection.

Bob at 3DFA has mentioned that the Paramount Legal Dept would never allow a crowd-funded release. End of story.

Yeah... I don't see a large company like Paramount doing a crowdfunder. It's not that they need to raise money to fund a project like this...it boils down to whether they deem it worthy of a release (and possibly dealing with the legal issues the franchise is facing with Cunningham/Miller). Paramount has never been one to put money into releases for this franchise even though the franchise has always been a money maker for them. They've always treated it like the red-headed stepchild of Paramount.

It's a shame really. Look at the new HALLOWEEN flick and how much money it's raking in. Not to mention it's actually gotten decent reviews (something horror films rarely get).

Do we know why the producer doesn't want to release it?

There are no good reasons why this hasn't had an official release but plenty of bad ones including ignorance, greed, spite and stupidity - take your pick...
