It's more then just contrast as other night scenes look like night... It seems to be the day for night shots. I think it was an oversight. Neil probably has not watched the film himself in 10 years and forgot how it should look. lol.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like an oversight.

Believe me, there are fans like that for a lot of things, brands and companies.

Just look at comicbook movies. You have Marvel Studio fanboys who will defend just about anything they do and you also have Fox fanboys who defend and accept any changes(no matter how bad or half assed they are)to the Fantastic Four and X-men franchises.

There are SF fanboys on these forums that I think defend them at all costs simply because SF is getting a number of films released on Blu that might have never seen the light of day otherwise. There are also others who buy their movies for the extras more than the actual film, also can't forget slipcovers.

Glad I didn't pre-order this one.
Sucks it sucks.
The movie is just cursed by shit release after shit release, Guess I'm sticking to my dvd. I'll take proper color timing over slightly sharper picture everyday, just ask my Crow: City of Angels dvd I bought after reading the BD reviews. We should not have to make choices like this!

They discuss Dog Soldiers on the new KillerPOV. It sounds like that the scene appearing to take place in the daytime is intentional. They say Neil Marshall supervised the telecine.

You can listen here. Jeff and Cliff come in around minute 28 and Dog Soldiers is mentioned around minute 45.

If that truly is the case then wow I've lost some respect for Marshall. It seems pretty clear that he oriignally intended these scenes to be night, since he had to make manipuations to the film to get it to look this way, otherwise he could have left it just as it was filmed. Obviously Shout is going to say this is how it's supposed to look, but I'd love to hear direct word from Marshall on this. It just seems mind boggling to believe he would do something like this on purpose, when it changes the atmosphere of those scenes completely.

Yeah, it's very PR damage control that podcast.
If it's Neil saying it them fine, but I don't buy it.

I'm more perturbed by the remarks about cigarette burns. It wouldn't surprise me if they used a projector print and then messed with it to make it look better, but ended screwing it up even more.

From Neil Marshall -

"Frankly, I'm baffled that anybody would defend the previous (and decidedly lackluster) Blu ray version of my debut feature, Dog Soldiers. This new Blu ray from Scream Factory has been crafted using original film elements. From tracking down two of the last surviving prints of the film in the UK to overseeing the cleaning and grading, I've been involved every step of the way. This is the movie as it was meant to be seen."

I saw it 35mm in the UK and that portion of the movie was at night, this does not answer that issue.

You see the thing about werewolves is they only come out at night, and that scene is not set in the day time...

In this case, it was Marshall's original intention to have it be night as the changes made in 2002 to get it to look that way could only be done deliberately. As dvdmike states, the werewolves don't come out during the day, so this revision (intentional or not) breaks the film's logic. Marshall appears to be commenting mainly on the previous BD release, which may in fact be off, but I really don't see how he could claim the scenes in question were meant to be set in the day.

Perhaps he will address that, but until that happens he has already stated his intentions for this release. SF was working with Marshall's explicit direction. If this is how he intended it to look, I'm fine with that.

Yeah, the low budget argument for certain films looking like shit on BD, holds absolutely no water whatsoever.

Note:I am not referencing Shout's Dog Soldier's disc, as I'm still waiting on my copy.

If this was the best they could do then they should have scrapped the release. It just looks artifical and bad. I have DVDs that look way better.
