Blu-ray Knight

The first time I ever realized that having a near infinite strength for a superhero would still not allow you to do anything and everything was way back in the days, with the classic JRJ Iron Man arc "Demon in the Bottle", when Stark, partially drunk, tried to help first reponders to the site of a derailed Train transporting dangerous chemicals. Feeling very confident, he pulled up the most dangerous container full of liquid chemicals, straight up in the air, and at that point the metal piece he was holding the container with broke, sending the container crashing down and spilling all of its content. Iron Man's strength or flight wasn't at fault, but rather the structural make of the handle bar and the metal resistance. In this case Nagy is arguing that even with an infinite strength, if you punch something with a much larger mass than you, you would either take a chunk out of it, or if it resists the impact it would actually send -you- flying opposite, according to the principle of opposing forces. One reason it could work though would be some sort of gravity cancelling field, or something that would increase your own mass by quite a bit (to send a 1.5+ton thing flying like a soccer ball). Now, this is also about suspension of disbelief, and you have to ask yourself if you can look past these "little" things or not ![]() PS: If the movie follows the original story -at all-, Cruise becoming stronger with every iteration is not the result of the "alien power". Well, not directly at least. Last edited by Elandyll; 05-29-2014 at 10:11 PM. |

The mecha suits were basically excellent - they had weight and they were shown to move in awkward realistic ways. Wasnt that good enough? |

[Show spoiler] I enjoyed the film, I thought it was reasonable fun and had a lot of attitude and charisma to it, plus it's nice to have a blockbuster that's simple and self-contained for the most part, no comic book continuity or franchise building (granted if this is a hit, studio execs will do anything including but not limited to sacrificing their first born son to get it greenlit). ![]() But I have one question concerning the Deus ex machina ending that left me a bit hung up and dry: [Show spoiler]
