I'd like to remind everyone that Batman Returns featured a Penguin with black blood and penguins with rockets attached to their backs being controlled from a large penguin golf cart.

Yeah Burton's Batman was nowhere near realistic, grounded or gritty. It was a dark fantasy.

I tend to look at the Schumacher Batman as a tribute to the 60s tv show.

WB better get their heads out of their behinds, and start releasing titles that never been released before, instead of continuing re-releasing the same movies numerous of times. This would be about the fourth blu-ray release of Batman (1989). It doesn't make sense.

Same here. But without the celebrity window cameos.

And is all the better for it (IMHO). Nolan was able to get the whole "dark and gritty, grounded in reality" thing to work beautifully, but for the most part I think it is a mistake to apply such requirements to a comic book character. Ideally, a world should be built for the character to live in, and IMO Burton's Batman films are the best live action representation of the character to date.

How ironic. I worked as a projectionist at a theater that opened the original back in 1989 (aside: something you don't see anymore are lines that wrapped around the building multiple times... I kinda miss that). We were instructed in no uncertain terms, not to use any "bat-this" or "bat-that" in our promotions, or anything else that might recall that series. WB went to great lengths to distance themselves from the 60's cheese-fest.

I can see that with "Batman & Robin", because it was a near-total campfest. However, I really enjoy "Batman Forever", even more than the 1989 original. It struck a very healthy balance between the darkness presented by Burton and the humor of the source material, without venturing too far in either direction like "Batman Returns" or Schumacher's second effort. Bob Kane even said that while Keaton was perfect as Batman for him, Val Kilmer was his favorite for Bruce Wayne.

I wonder what a '90s Justice League movie would've been like with Michael Keaton, Christopher Reeve, Lynda Carter and John Wesley Shipp.

This is one of the only movies in the world I'd buy multiple copies of Got the original '89 VHS still sealed (not the '97 reissue), the 2005 two-disc, 20th anniversary digibook, and will be getting the Diamond Luxe as well Not so much a fan of the cover art (the icy blue'd suit Batman & Robin better), but I'm loving the brand new disc art with Batman on one disc and the Joker on the other, that is just too friggin cool, as well as the new merch. documentary we're getting I may actually import the British edition too, for the couple extra docs. they'll be getting, I just don't understand why they can't put those on the American disc

It wouldn't have worked; Carter and Reeve would've been too old by then to play youthful characters. They'd have needed to write Diana and Clark as older, or recast.

The UK may not be getting the one we're getting in the US "Birth of a Modern Day Blockbuster" (or something along those lines).

Thanks for posting! Guess this confirms the other two extras are UK-exclusive?
