I saw the trailer for the first time when I went to watch Life this past weekend. It definitely looks visually stunning. Not sure about Cara Delevigne though, never really enjoyed her acting.

I'd be all over this if it was anyone but Besson at the helm.

Thumbs up

The first trailer did nothing for me. It was just visual vomit with no context. This trailer is much better. Just a little explanation to set up the world works wonders.

You need to watch Le Dernier Combat, Subway, The Big Blue, Nikita, Leon and The Fifth Element.

Absolutely stunning to look at. This is the kind of film the theater is made for. Very excited to see this. Probably my most anticipated July film this year.

Leon's in my top all-time 10. I've seen the rest aside from the first one you listed, but i cant get onboard with his style. It really does grate on me.

This reminds me of Jupiter Ascending, visually appealing but we all know how JA turned out.

Loved the trailer but the only negative I see is Rihanna. She is a terrible actress.

Of all the stunning visuals featured in the trailer she's the most stunning.

All over two decades ago; Besson's a shadow of his former self.

I wouldn't say it looks generic, but many aspects of it do look derivative down to a creature that reminds one of Jabba and CGI characters with exactly the same facial expressions as Zoe Saldana in Avatar. And much of the CGI looks cartoonish, although much is also quite beautiful and impressive. I'll withhold judgement because I did really like "The Fifth Element", but that film had the advantage of casting Bruce Willis, Milla Jovovich, Gary Oldman and Ian Holm. (By the way, there's a YouTube video of a real opera singer performing the alien opera from that film. Quite impressive.)

We'll see..

There is a character in Valerian that resembles Jabba and predates TESB.

Plava Laguna was played on screen by French actress Maiwenn but was voiced by real Albanian Opera Singer Inva Mula-Tchako.

(Maiwenn was married to Luc Besson but he left her for Milla Jovovich during filming of The Fifth Element. He was also previously married to Anne Parillaud who played Nikita.)

This has Ghost In The Shell syndrome written all over it. Looks good but is going to bomb hard.
