Default Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Luc Besson To Direct ‘Valerian’ In Return To Sci-Fi Roots

Has Luc Besson found his next Fifth Element? The producer-director just revealed that he is set to write and direct Valerian, an adaptation of the iconic French sci-fi graphic novel series from writers Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières that first appeared in 1967. Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider Man 2) and Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) will star, Besson tweeted today — his first postings on Twitter:

Funny to see Valerian and Roots in the same sentence considering Valerian Root is an actual herbal supplement (for mood and sleeping)

Holy crap .. I love Valerian & Laureline. I still remember the very first harcover my father gave to me back in the late 70s (a reprint of "The City of Shifting Waters/ La Cite des Eaux Mouvantes"- 1970).

It's pretty high level space opera/ time travel high concept (involving heavily parallel dimensions, time travel and weird space time phenoms at time) though .. that'll require some pretty big budget I think. Hope the movie delivers on the level of 5th element or better... /crossing fingers.

L'empire des mille planetes/ City of a thousand planets:

Synopsis of the original comic:
Quote:
Valérian and Laureline are ordered to Syrte-the-Magnificent, capital of the Empire of a Thousand Planets to investigate whether the empire is a potential threat to Galaxity, the capital of Earth in the 28th century.

Not getting into this, but Lucy was great. Watched it again just last night, I don't know how many times I've seen it.

I dont know.
USed to love Besson but his output late has been all over the place.
Absolutely HATED LUCY which is one of the worst films in years , The FAmily was kinda disappointing and a big missed opportunity and he wasted so much time writing so many lazy and short disappointing action movies .
The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec was a surprisingly fun movie however and The LAdy was good.

I Just hope this is a return to epic great storytelling like Leon, Joan of Arc, The Big Blue, Nikita and FIfth Element

Can't wait to read the articles saying how this movie will be a "rip-off of Star Wars". It's going to be Hi-Larious.

Sorry. Sadly to be expected, although it's (demonstrably) quite the opposite really, which prompted the artist to draw this back in 1983:

[Oh it's so funny we should meet here!] [Oh, we're long time customers really!]

In a way it's both savy (as a businessman) of Besson to kickstart Valerian around the re-launch of the Star Wars movies, and in some ways justice if they can surf on the possible return to popularity of the Space Operas.

I'll believe you, since you know more than I do. But that doesn't make me any more happy about it.

Besson is a director whose work I'll pretty much always watch no matter what, mostly for The Fifth Element but I've enjoyed other films of his also. This sounds like the kind of movie I would love to see.

SO pumped for this. Besson returns to my favorite genre. Should have happened a decade ago!

Hope it's good. I didn't care too much for the last two Besson films, but he's still one of my favorite directors, so I'm looking forward to checking this out when it comes out.

This should be cool but this year's space opera didn't fare well at all, despite being fantastic. Jupiter Ascending was all but ignored by crowds.

I think this will be great and will be right in Besson's wheelhouse.

Luc Besson makes french films that trick American audiences into forgetting they're watching a french film. As a person who loves french films, I think this is awesome.

I don't mean to be rude but i have no idea what you are talking about. I have seen a Luc Besson French film but i have also seen many of his English films, which were not French, they were English. None of these movies tricked me, they were what they were, movies made in English by a French director. Sure they are quirky but that is part of his appeal. Unless that is what you were talking about.
