A while after this talk, during a post-film reception, I spoke with Miller about his affinity for that black and white version of Fury Road. He said that he has demanded a black and white version of Fury Road for the blu-ray, and that version of the film will feature an option to hear just the isolated score as the only soundtrack — the purest and most stripped-down version of Fury Road you can imagine. Now that is something I would love to see |

The first Mad Max is much better than the last Mad Max.

Nope. Mad Max is better in my opinion. Holds up much better today compared to Thunderdome.

I love all of them for their differences, they each add something different without needing to rehash the previous too much. They all hold up well in my eyes because I don't compare them to each other directly but enjoy them as very different but linked stories. It's a film series that tries to reinvent itself culminating in Fury Road that is a hodgepodge of all three.
Mad Max is the "slowest" of the bunch in my eyes and probably the most character driven. You see a man wanting to do the right thing but finds he can't protect his family at the same time. The world also hasn't completely gone to sh*t yet since there's still some semblance of a police force and a society still producing. More emphasis on the drama and consequence of action than any of the other films. Road Warrior becomes full on apocalypse, between very few trying to remain human and all the highwaymen ready to tear them down. More action orientated of the original trilogy. Thunderdome is more fantasy in a way. I've always associated it with Peter Pan. Max is Peter leading the lost boys, Tina Turner is Captain Hook. The apocalypse theme is still evident based on the crazy a$$ characters at Bartertown but it's less action packed than Road Warrior but more "out there" than Mad Max. Fury Road, well, it's pretty much balls-to-the-wall action. It has the action of Road Warrior, the crazy society of Bartertown and the consequences of death from Mad Max. I hope Miller gets another crack that the universe he's created and as much as I loved the non-stop action in Fury Road, I hope he creates something different once again. |

Just saw this in a Atmos theater and it is a fantastic film that is expertly and magnificently executed.
Damn shame that this film is not receiving the same degree of success in the box office as some other notorious and wretched action films of late. Everyone needs to see this smart action film. Best regards, KvE |

I still haven't seen the first 3 movies but my mom said Thunderdome is still her favorite out of the 4 and that she'd watch it with me if/when I decide to rent it. Both of my parents said Tina Turner was great. Now I'm kinda interested in checking out the OT.

I finally saw this, it blew away every other action movie I've ever seen. Road Warrior is one of my favorite action movies of all time, probably my favorite of the 80s, but this really just blew it away in every single regard other than me preferring Mel Gibson's more charismatic and less "mad" take on the character to the one here. It of course looked far better and had so much more going on cause it had 30 years more of technology as well as about 20x the budget, but in sharp contrast to most reboots/remakes/late sequels (ex frickin' Poltergeist or Prometheus) it legitimately looked 20x better and had 20x more stuff on screen to reflect the 20x budget!! I am going to have to go see this several more times. Everyone I dragged with me had never seen any of the earlier movies but were all blown away by it and now want to see it again as well. It's incredibly annoying that this is making so much less money than trash like Poltergeist or Tomorrowland (or the very average comedy that is Pitch Perfect 2). Such is life. It's clearly going to be considered a massive flop since it isn't going to make 3x its budget back in international gross in the 3-4 weeks it has before it gets yanked from theaters to make way for the next cartoony CGI bore-fest of the summer. |

You could've made the same argument for The Mist, which a lot of people prefer the B&W version. I could be wrong, but I imagine they'll make adjustments to the film to make it look just how they want it to in B&W.
