Easily the best DV encode on Vudu right now.

Has it been confirmed yet whether the physical disc will just be HDR10? Because if it ends up receiving a DV encode, I would definitely purchase it, despite the film leaving a bit to be desired.
Paramount is currently not on-board with DV. It'll be HDR-10.

So lame.

The movie wasn't good enough for me to double dip. I prefer owning physical media due to inherent compression issues with streaming. However, the encode provided to Vudu really is as good it can get for that format.

I'm content with owning the DV version.

Weird how these studios have no issues providing DV versions to streaming services, but won't commit to supplying it on the physical versions.

I know with Vudu specifically, studios have to provide DV encodes for UHD content, so they can do it, but they probably have to upgrade authoring software and workflows which isn't cheap and might not be worth it for an audience that's a niche within a niche.

They also might have current exclusivity deal with Vudu at the moment for DV encodes.

I am an optimist and I want to think that these recent/soon to be releases with only HDR10 are because of lack of DV capacity and not that the studios are deliberately short changing us.

I bought ghost in the shell on vudu last night in uhd and the pq is mind blowing. The depth in every scene is jaw dropping. You get sucked into the world so easily because everything looks too real. The colors pop like crazy especially in the neon soaked cityscapes. Explosions and flashing lights in the darkness are so bright that you'll be wincing. The wcg adds a more detail like the different colors in Batou's jacket that just don't pop in the hdx version. The skin tones and every object has a perfect amount of sheen to it that gives it that 3d pop effect. There was a scene where an explosion occurs and a piece of metal flies out at the screen that made me put my arms up in front of my face so it wouldn't hit me.

This movie is also a lot brighter and not dim like some other dolby vision movies. The level of detail in the black levels and hdr are stunning and really shines through like when Major goes into the deep dive and is swarmed by figures pulling her down. In the hdx version the scene is too dark and loses detail, but in DV you can see all the fine details of the figures clothes that aren't present in the hdx at all. Even though this only has a 2kDI the image is still sharp and clean throughout with no softness to the image. Overall this is definitely reference quality and has been the only dv/hdr10 movie to wow me in every single scene. Ghost in The Shell is on a whole nother level and to me has no equal when it comes to the use of dolby vision.

no 4k disc, no buy, streaming is always inferior no matter what.

I was very unimpressed by the 3D in the theater but that doesn't always mean the 3D disc will be the same.

Well I hope it looks better at home then.

Regardless I'm gonna buy both the 3D and 4K versions. Can't wait to see this, I'm expecting the PQ of the UHD to be mindblowing.

Thanks for the detailed review. Did you pay full price for the VUDU download, or are there any promos floating around?

4k.

The 3D was too dark to be effective.

It isn't native 3D. In my home, that means the 4K will always win out.

Okay? Groot!

3D is limited on 2K screen. 4K UHD is rich wide colour and HDR10. Also with Atmos Dolby soundtrack.

For me? I pick UHD.

3D disc comes with no Atmos soundtrack?
Warcraft is in Atmos on both 4K and 3D disc
