I like the Ultimate Hammer a lot but I think they should go with the original. I wuldn't be too upset if they used the newer one though.

agreed. Although I will say the modernized version doesn't bother me much. I'd be content with either version, but I'd prefer they use the original...for the first movie at least. Maybe he can get an upgraded Mjolnir in the sequel.

Have they talk about what look they will give Thor? Will it be the old type look or something closer to the new Ultimate Avenger look?

Almost nothing has been revealed about anything. Which is good and bad; I'd kill for an art design but I would be happier going into the movie having seen nothing.

I was just wondering, thanks. I hope they keep a retro look, I am not too too crazy about the new look

I like either the retro look (similar to my avatar) or the new revived thor look, (shown in post #272) but not the ultimates look. Oh, and no beard please.

I just been having a hard time adapting to these new looks they are given the superheroes. I grew up with the 60's-70's look and for me that's what they look like I need to get with the times I suppose, things change.

yeah, i agree with ya for the most part and I've got 6 years on ya too! i would love the traditional, marvel comics representation of thor but i will accept the new look of thor shown in the posting i mentioned, I just don't like the ultimates look of thor, it's too modern and thor is one of the old Gods in mythology so he shouldn't have a futuristic or even contemporary look. imo, but, they also have to cater to a large crowd that are not really too familiar with thor.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming production of Thor, the Mighty God of Thunder, is about to get underway in January as we’ve seen a stream of updates in recent months leading up to the exciting project.

In just the last few weeks alone, Idris Elba and Kat Dennings joined the ensemble cast along with Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano as The Warriors Three; Joe Quesada’s talked up the movie and its director, Kenneth Branagh. And last but not least, rumors of Jeremy Renner playing Hawkeye have spread with the possibility of the character having a cameo role in Thor.

With all of the casting announcements, one thing was missing: Stan Lee’s role! Stan talked in a few interviews about meeting director Branagh, praising him and revealing that Branagh promised him a role in the movie. Now it has been confirmed from Stan the Man himself!

On his Twitter account yesterday, Stan put up the following tweets:

Quote:
“Hey, I got an email from the multi-talented director of Thor, Kenneth Branagh. Not enough space left to tell what he said– stay tuned–”

“Kenneth Branagh (of course I call him “Ken!”) said my cameo’s set for the upcoming Thor movie. –To him, it’s a cameo, to me– it’s a ROLE!”

“went easy on Ken Branagh when we discussed my role in Thor. Told him I wouldn’t insist on my name above the title, I think he was grateful”

“Yeah, I mentioned Ken Branagh a few times, but I warned you I was a name dropper. Seriously tho’, with him directing, Thor’s a sure winner”

“Of course, my previous tweet revealed the extent of my innate modesty. I really wanted to add ‘With me doing a cameo, Thor’s a sure winner’”

“Can’t tweet anymore. Due to Thor, I must start rehearsing my thee’s and thou’s. So, if thou objecteth not, I wish thee well! ‘Nuff saideth”
I’m happy about Stan getting a cameo in my most anticipated film out of Marvel’s lineup of solo character titles coming out over the next few years and its always a pleasant treat for the fans. That last time we got to see the legend was last summer in The Incredible Hulk and the first Iron Man. I have no idea what to expect from his guest appearance and I wonder if it’ll top him playing Larry King in Iron Man 2 or Hugh Hefner in Iron Man.

That’s not all we got from Twitter this week though! Jaimie Alexander, who we know is playing Sif in Thor, mentioned in a recent tweet that she’s excited about starting rehearsals, which according to her, begin this week. This should mean that many of the cast will be coming together for the first time.

It look s like we’re on track without any delays for the mid-January production start and I look forward to seeing the first set photos and images of our favorite Asgardians in costume.

Thor opens in theaters May 20, 2011.

Nuff saideth

I read that earlier, you have to love Stan Lee
His cameos are the greatest and I look for them each and every time (can't tell you how many times I looked for him in X2 before discovering he was not in it).

Actress Rene Russo has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Thor. Russo will apparently be playing the character of Frigga, wife of Odin, the king of Asgard.

Variety reports that Russo’s role is that of ‘the mother of Thor and Loki, the pic’s primary villain…’ However, if you are a Marvel Comics aficionado and a long time student of Thor, you already know that there is a problem with that description.

If you aren’t a Thor geek, then let me break it down for you: In the comic book continuity, Frigga is indeed Odin’s wife and queen of Asgard. HOWEVER, in the comic continuity she is Thor’s step mother, and a foster mother to Loki.

Now obviously the whole step mother/foster mother thing is kind of confusing, making the relationship between Thor, Loki and Odin – one of the cornerstones of Thor’s story – hard to sort out. It could very well be as Variety has described it, and for the sake of a more cohesive movie, the relationships between the characters have been simplified for the benefit of the audience.

I’m sure we’ll learn more as Thor moves into production next year. If you haven’t heard already, here is the angle the film is taking:

Quote:
Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior reignites an ancient war between the gods of Asgard. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth.
Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) is playing Thor, Tom Hiddleston is playing Loki, Sir Anthony Hopkins is playing Odin and Natalie Portman will play Thor’s human love interest, Jane Foster. A bunch of really fine actors will also be filling out the Thor cast, and you can learn who they are and who they will be playing by going HERE.

What do you think – are you a Rene Russo fan? Happy to hear she’ll be joining the cast of Thor?

Thor is slated to hit theaters on May 20, 2011.

Alexander Skarsgård was asked about Thor:

Quote:
Skarsgård also talked briefly about "Thor," and reveals that he was "very close to getting it":

If I heard correctly, your dad was just cast in Thor and you were in the running for that title character, what did you think about that prospect?
Quote:
I was very flattered. I know that they considered me for the part and I got, from what I understand, very close to getting it and that’s amazing because I know how many guys they look at for a part like that. I was very humbled by that. It was a great experience and you know you win some you lose some, of course I wanted to do that but…

Did you actually audition for it?

Quote:
Oh yeah, many, many times.

Good news for Thor fans the release has been moved up 2 weeks to Spider-Man 4's old date. But if Spider-Man 4 does make it then Thor is moved back 2 weeks to the old date.

I hope they don't get Spidey back for its release. It'll give the already crowded summer of '11 a little more room to breath. It should also definitely help Thor's box office.

They should give it more room, that was the problem with The Incredible Hulk. If TIH had more room it probably would have had bigger box office success.

Very excited for this film, especialy with Kevin Feige's hype.
