That is much the idea of purchasing a lot of my equipment already upgraded or upgrading my equipment with Dave Schulte of the Upgrade Company. To many it may seem foolish or expensive. But, consider the performance of the equipment and how much money I would have to pay for stock equipment that may equal the upgraded equipment. After burn in (a long process for much Dave's work) this brings the equipment to a much higher level of performance than when it was first acquired.

I concur Rich That's how I save $$$- not that I don't get good deals for brand new ones though...I'm such a lazy bum and want instant gratification when it comes to my gear. By buying used or demo stuff,I mean... its not like you're buying a used car that has a lot of wear and tear; as real audiophiles take care of their gear.

I forgot, with your cable cooker, do you re-burn/cook your cables on an annual bassis to ensure the right frequencies are burned in?

cable cooker?....you guys have definately gone off the deep end. No matter what any of you say, I'm not gonna fall for that

Rded, let me know what you think about that Rob Thomas concert. Been contemplating getting it, although I really am not a huge fan by any means. If it has good sound, I'd get it.

I'll now let you guys get back to talking about throwing money away

I am not sure, I don't have it yet. Dave ordered 2 of these almost 2 weeks ago, one for him and one for me. I hope to have it soon, it is already paid for and I am awaiting 3 Wireworld IC cables (ultimately these are for the 2 surrounds and Center channels for the SACD multichannel; I will use one of the older cables for the subwoofer and better cables for the front L & R. Ultimately, the best cables will be for the 2 channel SACD as well as the CD to the Lavry DAC) and I have 2 more Wireworld cables that need immediate attention before I install them into the system (along with some other cables).

Both Dave and I need them with the number of cables that we have and use. Dave of course because he is constantly checking the equipment, before, during, and after modification, and also for the reference gear. I need it because of the number of components in and being put into service. And it will get worse for when I move because I will need a lot of ICs that I am starting to acquire as well as new long speaker cable runs for the 7 channels of speakers.

Ice,

Not really, here is the link:

http://www.audioexcellenceaz.com/aud...ablecooker.htm

It has been well reviewed over the years and through upgrade modifications over the years. A lot of people in the know swear by cable burn-in and "cookers". Nordost prepares all of their most expensive cables before resale with their "cooker". I am getting the PRO Special Edition version of audiodharma CABLE COOKER™ that is not listed on the website.

Ice, we are just eccentric... some people crucify us and some just think we're flat out insane. But hey I don't consider it throwing money because the end result is justifiable. As far as the Rob thomas BD, its been good so far. The sound is pretty god bu no whre near the Dave Matthews. I got the BD when it 1st came out for $14.99 at BB(which came out cheaper than the DVD version at $18)

Very intruiging as Nordost has a similar machine called the Vidar. Let me know how t works and if you need to re-burn cables annually? How mush is it BTW(you can just PM) if you don't mind me asking

Rhett,

John Lum, the person that I purchased the 2 pair of Wireworld Platinum Eclipse cables from had prepared them with both the Vidar and the audiodharma CABLE COOKER™. According to John, who has been using the audiodharma CABLE COOKER™ since 1993 with all of the updates, he says that the audiodharma is without question the better unit.

Sweet! I am just speaking from experience, but the burn in process is looonnngg....My ICs and speaker cables were hooked to the machine for over 150hrs and they recommend over 200hrs for valhalla and odin Come to think of it, speaker wires are due for burn-in this september...maybe I'll just upgrade to a heimdall if the funds permit. God willing
How long do they recommend you burn in your wirewold cables?

According to John, for most ICs he indicates between 2 1/2 to 3 or even 4 days followed by usage on the sysem. John was of the opinion that my Wireworld Platinum Eclipse cables (I believe he still has some in one of his systems) came just this close to the Nordost Odins. He said that the Odins may be a little more transparent and more analytical than the Eclipses, but the Eclipses are 1/5 the cost.

By the way, John is the one that did the review of the Eclipses on Audio Asylum: http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/cab...13/139632.html

You can check his links.

Now, even if I had all the money in the world, I would probably never spend it on Odins I just wanna say that flat out. Its just too much for cables. I do have my limits ya know...Thanks for the link.

Rhett,

I can most definitely appreciate that. As expensive as the Wireworld Platinum Eclipses are at 1/5 the price of the Nordost Odins they seem to be a steal. If John is correct, and I do not doubt him, he indicates that the Platinum Eclipses are far superior to the Nordost Valhalla for 3/4 the price and just a hair poorer than the Odins (for 1/5 the price). Plus, as John indicates the special molded carbon fiber RCA connectors for the Wireworld Platinum Eclipses can fit into spaces that the locking RCA WBT connectors of the Odins will not and he does not like the Odin connectors.

Yes indeed, Nordost valhalla is the most I'd go for in the Nordost's reference line.

Since we painted the basement and found out that the wall socket where I plug all my gear via the crappy-ass monster power conditioner has a burn, I totally stopped using my gear But now.....
Sorry to hear about the wall socket issue, hope it's not too serious. BTW, did you ever look into the audience power components? If you have any interest, contact John McDonald at audience with any questions. For something very economical, but still good, I have used a Tripplite Isobar 10 which works well for about $200. Although it is mov based, it does have a high jewel rating. Unfortunately it is not a conditioner, but still most likely better than the monster piece.

No problem, I used to like the Furman products, but after they were acquired by Panamax, I lost faith. The Tripplite stuff is dependable, and reasonable. And they have a wide assortment, to suit various applications.
