Who cares???

That book was mediocre and has nothing to do with Kubricks movie so don’t see why that would get it a 4K release...

I'm sure there are a lot of people who care. I do. I'm happy The Shining is getting a movie sequel. Why wouldn't the original get a 4K release? Stephen King's book actually does expand on The Shining film.

Thanks for being so rude.

Anyway, I wish Warner Bros. would try and get Shelley Duvall to come back even if just in a cameo. I know she's had/having psychological issues and all which is so sad. But maybe giving her something to focus on and work on could help her.
I hope either way she gets well.

I wasn’t trying being rude. But if it came off as that I apologize I'm a very blunt person. Just don’t think many people are clamoring for a Doctor Sleep movie considering a large amount of peopls don’t even know what it is.

And it’s just a fact if it’s not connected to Kubricks Shining film no one is gonna give a shit. It’s a sequel that has no preceding movie to build a foundation. I also find it odd that he’d expand on Kubricks movie considering he hates it so much. I haven’t read the book so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt but I’m skeptical. And why would you get Shelley Duvall?? Seems like your trying to connect this to Kubrick's movie when that's the last thing King would want.

I’d much rather get Mark Romenak’s Shining prequel. At least that’d be interesting succeed or fail. A movie about a mediocre book (like I said haven’t read it but that’s the general consensus from reviewers) doesn’t really grab my attention.

The thing with The Shining is Kubrick made it his own. I hope Doctor Sleep isn't going to be connected to the Kubrick film but just an adaptation of the book and part of King's multiverse instead.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. If they do Doctor Sleep it should be it's own thing even if King made nods to Kubrick's movie in the book (again I'm skeptical of that)

I haven't read Doctor Sleep either. Just the synopsis. It says to have Wendy Torrance finally getting over the events at the Overlook Hotel and Danny finally coming to terms with his 'shining' abilities. And then more characters and stories come into play.

Yup, Wendy and Hallorann feature in Dr. Sleep.
[Show spoiler]Wendy recovers from the horrendous injuries she sustained in the novel and unlike in the movie, Hallorann is still alive
. If this is a faithful adaptation it would have to depart from the Kubrick film anyway.

Shouldn't be a problem. But I think they have to adapt to what happened in the film rather than the book.

Wow, I kinda loved the book. I'm a long-time King fan and read most everything and this was the first one I've really loved in many years- I hasten to add I don't know that it works so well as a Shining sequel, but it's a great standalone book.

As far as a movie is concerned, nobody can make a sequel to Kubrick's film. If you reference elements from his original film, you wind up with a 2010- a weak footnote that nobody asks for. This book has enough of its own identity that I think with a strong director and no attempt to recreate locations or styles of the original film, it could be ok.

I agree about the making a sequel to Kubricks movie part. But this movie was gonna be a prequel and the rumor was it was gonna be about them building the hotel in 1907 and repelling the Indian attacks. So it would have been like The Revanent or something. It wouldn’t explain anything about Kubricks movie. It would be it’s own movie just in Kubricks universe. That to me is more interesting then a Doctor Sleep movie.

I don’t see why they have to do that if Flannagan approaches it as an adaptation of Dr Sleep rather than as a sequel to the Kubrick movie. Hallorann has an important function in the plot of Dr. Sleep and after the prologue, the story is mostly quite self contained. At most I can see the movie nodding to the Kubrick film here and there, rather than being a straight up sequel.

"Dr. Sleep" is one of the worst books King has written in recent years, and a big reason is because he is still so pissed about the movie "The Shining" that he seems to be writing the novel out of spite so that he can emphasize all of the ways that Kubrick "got it wrong". There are several scenes where he stops the story just to remind the reader of something that Kubrick changed, or to emphasize how Jack really *was* a good guy not just a monster like some people think.

The Mark Romanek prequel would have been based on Before the Play, King‘s unpublished prologue to The Shining (it can easily be found on they Internet). It came in five chapters.

The first chapter dealt with the first years of The Overlook and it’s about the tragic death of the owners son. There is nothing about repelling Indian attacks in it, it is nothing like The Revenant. The construction of the hotel takes up a small part of it.

The other chapters deal with the backstories of various ghosts which feature in The Shining and one chapter is about Jack Torrance when he was a young boy in the 50s.

I’m not sure why people are convinced that Indians or Indian burial grounds are of importance in The Shining. That happens in Pet Semetary, not The Shining. Nothing about Indian burial grounds gets mentioned in the novel. In the movie Jack mentions it briefly along the events of they Donner Party as spooky scene setting for Danny but it’s never confirmed as true and it has no impact in the plot. It‘s a trope in several other 80s horror films like Poltergeist 2.

In any case, nothing has been heard about the project for a few years. Romanek is a good director, so it could have been interesting.

I'd rather they do an all-female-cast remake of The Shining: Two women. Adopted child. Every character would be female. It would be soooo good!!!!

No it wasn’t gonna be based on that. The Producer of the film confirmed its a prequel to Kubricks movie.

That‘s 2.5 minutes of him saying nothing about the plot, just about how great it’s going to be. Nothing about Indians, nothing how it relates to the Kubrick film, nothing really. It’s just going to be great !

Everything I have read about the plot for the prequel was that it’s based on Before the Play. And now the project appears to be dead as nothing has been heard for several years.
