I do get that some people have legit interest/need for a DVD copy, and I'm not about to say they shouldn't, of course. Just ... give me a package with only discs that I'm going to use, and I'll be happy. (I'm sure all those untouched bits of plastic or polyacetate or whatever they're made from are stagnating the qi flow and making it fester. Like suitcases under the bed. Or somesuch thing.)

Noticed something a bit weird with the copy of World War Z that I bought today. It's a digipak, right ... but without a slipcase to hold it together. It just folds shut, but there's nothing to keep it that way. Never seen anything like it — it's like the innards of a digipak, but left as an orphan. I rang my local JB, to see if my copy somehow had something missing, and the woman that served me earlier got one off the shelf — she'd never seen one unwrapped — and she thought it was thoroughly weird, too. Anyone else got this one?

Picked up my orders of:

My luck continued tonight, I was given a $300 refund on the VT60, as JB have dropped their ticket price for it since I purchased it a few weeks ago.

I should have the wall mount tomorrow too, so hopefully I can arrange for it to be installed next week.

I saw it JB tonight.

I actually started out with a Sony home theatre in a box setup, they can be good little systems. I also use Sony speakers in my bedroom (I didn't end up keeping the Klipsch Quintets that my brother gave me several weeks ago).

Sometimes if I want to show a film to a friend who doesn't have a BD player, the DVD copy might come in handy, and I can lend it to them. It's the digital copy disc that's absolutely useless to me.

JB Order

Had some great news that I won a PS4 from a competition at work, so I went a bit nuts with some Blurays.

It always happens but I see such awesome deals for titles I paid $20ish for when they first came out and I ask myself why I couldn't I have just waited until BF sales knowing they'd be 50-60% lower. Ah well, that's the dilemma of a Blu collector.

Gonna hit up the JB sales tomorrow. Noticed that the Aus version of the Forever Marilyn collection is 8 films, not 7 - we get Niagara as well (other regions have to buy it separately) which is apparently stunning on blu. You have to admit, sometimes we do get some luck over here...

Good point. Mind you, after several instances of lending discs and receiving something back that was completely unplayable, plus a kind of aggressive indifference from the person I'd lent it to, I simply don't lend discs anymore. I hate it, because I much prefer sharing my toys, but I hate being annoyed and having to buy a new copy even more.

Dilemma, indeed. Mind you, for every one that you could have waited and bought far more cheaply, there's another one (or even more) that will have gone out of availability if you'd waited. You have to know when and where to act. It's like one of those co-ordination games we used to play when I was a kid, where you have to take one thing out without bringing the whole pile crashing down. They used to make me so tense!

The last time I lent a DVD out I didn't even get it back! As the friend moved back overseas.

Wow! The lengths some people go to, so you can't drop round and ask for your disc back!!

Finally found the time to catch up on Supernatural. I watched Season 7 in a week (Oops) and so far I've watched 2 discs of Season 8. I'm not really enjoying it as much and Sam is really getting on my nerves..

(Only caveat: the DVD copies annoy me. Why would that be? No idea, but they do. I'd *much* rather buy each of these as BD-only. And I really don't believe that the DVD copy doesn't bump the price up.)

Nice bit: the ratings logo on The Hobbit is an easily-removeable sticker.
I look at it as a fantastic way for people who are thinking about buying a Blu-ray player soon. They can watch the DVD and when they get a Blu-ray player they will already have it. This was obviously my theory when Blu-ray was first coming out, now I am just mind blown by the amount of people that don't even have a BD player which can be had for under $50

I find that I'm the only person I know that buys blu-ray's, even a couple of friends of mine who are huge movie buffs still only buy DVD's. The majority seem to argue that they can't justify spending extra on the blu-ray... It's generally not that huge of a price difference and it's an argument they wouldn't be making if theyd ever actually watched a blu-ray (a couple of people tell me they cant see any difference between blu and dvd, clearly they must have been drunk or something)

Not to mention there are still people who aren't using Full-HD televisions, or those who buy a blu-ray player and don't use a HDMI cable, which would explain the lack of difference they're seeing.

Sorely disappointed the first time I saw it, but liked it a little more the 2nd time round.

Another excellent movie, I really enjoyed the performances right across the board.
I heard that the Australian Release of The Way Back was cropped down from the original 2:35:1 aspect ratio. Is this correct?
