You just seemed like you were trying extra hard to be condescending. Still seems that way.

What I was trying to say was that they were running from their own weapons, which I assume were somehow created by the black goo.

I could be wrong though.

Fair enough, it just didn't add up to me I guess they might of been running away from the engineer that got beheaded by the door because he was infected.

I know people who thought SW&TH would be #2....don't be mean. Still, Sat and Sun should be really kind to Madagascar (fortunately my kids are a little old for this stuff so I don't have to go through that torture ).

They ran from something out of control. They probably started also life on other planets. And maybe they were seeking answers too and arrived there way before us. We are not alone. They played god and it got out of hand.

My take on it.

Duh, that would explain it! I guess I was thinking about the other similarities.

[Show spoiler]Like the engineers' ship wrecking in pretty much the exact position of the ship we see in ALIEN.

This might be the best looking film of the year, but it will not get my vote for best film of the year for sure.
I've also heard that Noomi Rapace does a wonderful job in the film.

I don't think
[Show spoiler]the black goo is the stuff of interest. It's more like the stuff David pulled out of the "vase". The black goo is just a difference weapon
or something. Gosh got to see it again.

LV-426 and LV-223 are moons, not planets.

I gave it 4/5 but really rate it a strong 3.5/5.

I really enjoyed the movie and heres a list of my likes and dislikes. Kind of a long read I guess, sorry.

[Show spoiler]Likes

- The bulk of the 3.5 stars I gave it goes to the concepts and ideas presented in Prometheus and how it expands on the universe to almost infinite levels. There are questions in Prometheus that could hang over our heads even after its inevitable sequels have come and gone. Think of the film Alien as a circle youre standing in and instead of Prometheus letting you step outside of that circle to find answers it instead makes the circle ALOT bigger so the search continues and I really like this idea. Had Prometheus answered everything it would have been far to easy and convenient.

- The look of the film. The equipment, the Prometheus ship, the temple inside and out all look fantastic. It may seem a little more "high tech" than what was seen in Alien but it kinda makes sense given MUCH more care (AND money) probably went into the design of the Prometheus than the mining vessel Ripley and her crew were on.

Dislikes

- Totally unbelievable characters. It was almost mind boggling how ignorant and foolish they were at times. Not once did I believe ANY of these "scientists" were professionals on a expedition that cost ONE TRILLION dollars to get off the ground. So youre telling me, they spent one trillion dollars and the best scientist they could find was some dumbass, that instead of being cautious at the first sight of an alien organism, instead goes over there to PET it?...and say things like "hey beautiful"? Its not a kitten dude its a potentially hostile alien organism and instead of doing something smart and cautious by scientific standards he went over there and tried to pet it. And Fifield?...whats his deal? Every time the guy speaks to someone he seems to quiver with rage with his badass mohawk and mean mugging face though at the first sign of an engineer (thats been dead for 2000 years) he freaks out and becomes a chicken shit like he wasn't told to begin with this is the kinda stuff they were looking for in some form or fashion. I mean...the guy is obviously unstable and not fit to go on an expedition like this.

- Okay. Shaw gets impregnated with the alien and David puts her out to get her ready for cryosleep. He leaves and two other doctors take over. She wakes up, knocks both of them out with a blunt object, runs to the surgical pod and has the alien removed...stumbles down the hallway a bloody mess and finds a group of people (including Weyland) and after all this happens no-one thinks to mention "hey uuuhhh...Shaw? Say, what happened to that ALIEN that was inside of you?" and the two people she knocked out didnt seem concerned with WHY they got knocked out to begin with had the possiblity of them not knowing about the alien been a factor.

- When "Mutant Fifield" returns back to the Prometheus, instead of them taking caution into account they just open the door right up to apparently let him in. The guy sees him folded in half on the ground with his helmet shattered knowing you can't survivie without your helmet and instead of saying "alright guys...not good, shut the door" he walks right up to him with a boneheaded look on his face. What did he think?...Fifield crawled his way to the ship folded in half with his helmet broken? I just can't believe people can be THAT stupid.

Anyway. Those gripes are cetainly annoying to watch as the movie plays out because they are just...plain...stupid. There is NOTHING intelligent about it in any way and with a film with such cool ideas and concepts like Prometheus its crazy to think they let stuff like this slide. I can only hope they dial up the intelligence of its characters in Prometheus 2. I didn't think the acting was particularly bad IMO. What came off as bad acting, IMO, was how unbelievable the characters seemed in their actions not the way they delivered their lines (minus Fifield as his "quiet riot" going on from within).

Overall I really enjoyed Prometheus. Am I let down?...a bit yea, because not only did I want Prometheus to make me think but I wanted it to have cool characters and this one didn't (minus David, Vickers, and Janek...who in my opinion belong in this universe. The rest are too stupid to belong in ANY universe). Even though I'm a tad let down, I'm still mesmerized by all the possibilities. My friend and I sat down yesterday and discussed this film and we kept coming up with things to try and make sense of it and once we thought we had it something else would factor in to make it just THAT more complex. Movies like Prometheus don't come out too often...so its a treat that something like this comes out and you and your friends can debate.

3.5/5

Well hold your nose and color me common. The critiques on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB run the gamut....as do critiques from the "serious ...sites". I don't pay a lot of attention to what others like or don't like. When I pay for a ticket, "I" want to be entertained and don't give a rats @$$ whether someone else likes it or not (unless it's my wife and I have to listen to her complain about it).

I liked Prometheus and think they did a good job of picking the protagonist.
