Hey, least I could do. I heard the mistakes immediately as they’d bothered me ever since the DVD. Funny enough, as long as I owned the DVD, I NEVER realized that there was a 2.0 track on it that didn’t contain those errors. LOL

Nissen created some excellent cover art for this title for those not aware. Quote from the "Custom Cover Art" thread shown below. Much preferred to the floating heads if you ask me. To each his own naturally.

While they are meant for people who want a cover for that project, I made them generic enough to work with practically any future release of the Special Edition.

The first one is very similar to the official artwork for the Special Edition. I actually recreated the artwork using a publicity still, adding a few bells and whistles in the process.

The second version was inspired by the Argentinian VHS box. I felt it represented the mystery of the Abyss, and the all-encompassing blackness very well.

Both are available via PM as always.

All of the above still applies to Fox’s new physical 4K Ultra HD release, which is encoded on a triple-layered UHD-100 disc. The only difference here is that the video data rates are significantly higher that the Digital stream—on the order of 50 Mbps on average. What that means, is that the color is a bit more vibrant, detail is a little more nuanced, the overall contrast is a little more expansive, and the whole image looks just a bit more dimensional.

There's your eventual steelbook cover (the diver, hopefully).

As for Bill Hunt: Unfortunately, it's not The Abyss review I'm worried about.....

Me neither. I thought this and Titanic were both great.

I fully expect the Aliens and True Lies reviews two to follow suit. i.e. basically the same but with the expected upticks provided by the improved bit rates. Which would be a disappointment, because for me at least ,they need a more substantial overhaul.

There will likely be UHD steelbooks at some point for both True Lies and The Abyss. It will be from Sony though since they will be doing all the physical media now for Disney.

Very reassuring, as I'm in the UK I'll be waiting awhile for my import but after so many years that'll seem like small change. The Abyss is finally back on disc and the legacy extras are all here. First Conan in 4K, now this
Good times.

Given the improvement provided by the increased bitrate, I predict Bill Hunt's review score will go from A- (digital release) to A (physical release). However the most telling part of his digital review is...

Quote:
This 4K image certainly isn’t perfect—it often looks a little… processed is the best word I can come up with. But the more I look at it, the more I like it, and I suspect that most fans will feel the same. But I also suspect that some viewers will really dislike it, because it’s definitely different, and I certainly appreciate that perspective too.

As I wrote before I am convinced the initial 4K BR batch was too low. The executives at Disney did not foresee the overwhelming demand for The Abyss (10K+), Aliens (8K+) and True Lies (8K+). Look at Disney Poor Things BR to be released by the same studio at the same time as the above titles but has only 2K pre orders and it is showing a delivery estimate date.

Amazon does a pre-booking at the credit card before shipping the order. In my case nothing happened. It's true I only placed the order after the price drop. Roughly a month ago. Could you please have a look if you have a debit authorisation on your cards ? Do you got a change of status on your order ?

It makes me think about the last Indiana Jones soundtrack CD also released by Walt Disney only in the US. Before it was released it was sold out. I suppose less than 3000 copies were made for the initial batch. You could only find it on eBay for over $500 or way more. It took a few months to the clever executives to approve the release of new batches. What's even more stupid they even didn't think releasing it in other countries around the world. Why !!?? To push digital sales.

Don't come with the B.S. excuse the physical media is dying and sales are going down.

The reason it's going down it's because not enough physical copeis are being produced or not printed at all. Studios want to push digital by Killing physical.

A big mistake was done by the industry when the Blu-Ray was first released in 2006, the production of DVDs was never stopped. I remember going to Fnac, Virgin Megastore and HMV Blu-Ray is we're always 10% of the DVD stock. You could only buy HDTVs and 4K TVs but DVDs were still around. Stupid !!!! I bet a lot of people didn't know Blu-ray players were back compatible with DVDs. When Apple replaced the floppy disc they went directly to DVDs pushing for the new format.
I started to replace my DVDs by BR's around 15 years ago and I own today almost 2000 Blu Ray's. The reason I am buying less, is because many great titles were never released on Blu-ray and I don't know if they ever will. Why did James Cameron wait almost 18 years to release those titles ???

I will always will continue to buy Blu Ray's and physical media.

By consuming digital you own nothing !!!

Because of industry greed. I know a few film directors I asked them why their last 4K film they shot was released only on DVD !!!???? The answer was: Costs.

You need to pay a fee for all Blu-Ray printed and a fee to the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) the industry consortium. More than to release DVD.

More Blu-Ray's produced should bring the production fees down.

DVD's should be phased out long time ago...

Blu-Ray should be the only option.

In the UK less known films were released directly on DVD, no Blu-Ray.
