Well yes, there is that too. You know, as much as I'm glad they'll be left out of Jurassic World because I don't think there's any way the characters would possibly return to one of those islands again, I'm gonna miss seeing Jeff Goldblum, Sam Neill and Laura Dern.

I don't think the scene is overtly sexist but it's very hacky and the tropes are incredibly stale. The rotten dialogue doesn't help either. I think sometimes (maybe not necessarily in this instance because the scene is so bad that it's not even worth defending or attacking imo) "antagonistic language" is appropriate, regardless of the effect it has on people (ironically the same people who are all "lulz quit being so PC I don't care who I offend ").

Well trust me, it isn't news to me that most people I fundamentally agree with tend to use those terms ten times more than I do. I just don't think it does the argument any favors. I'd rather just say "who wrote this terrible, gender tropes riddled and cliche dialog?" Then we can all just focus on how horribly written that scene is rather than getting into 2015 gender politics on the internet, which always ends badly in my experience.

I know from twitter and gawker blogs however that it's much more attention-getting to say "sexist" somewhere in there.

Plus these people usually aren't in the category of people who it offends (women, people of colour), making it hard for them to relate or understand why it is offensive it seems.

I also have zero hope for any non-dinosaur scenes in this movie and if I hear the dinosaur scenes don't even deliver, I will not see it.

sexualization or the use of sexual imagery isn't inherently sexist. Excessive shots of ScarJo's ass aren't necessarily any more sexist than excessive shots of shirtless Channing Tatum in other movies.

Over sexualization and the use of a woman as ONLY a sexual prop is sexist, but I've never felt that was an issue in the Avengers films.

Ok but do we know that is the issue in JW? As far as we know Claire could very well be a very strong female character who puts Owen right ack in his place. It could even happen in the next line of dialogue in the film. To base an entire body of work on a one and a half minute clip is really ridiculous if you ask me.

oh i'm not commenting on whether or not Joss is sexist in this context or not, although I suspect not. I just meant to point out that trying to compare it to shots of ScarJo's has is a flawed comparison.

I think Black Widow and the other females in the MARVEL movies (and most movies in general) would fall under "The Male Gaze" theory, The Avengers is written by a man and filmed by a man. Black Widow is predominately viewed from a male perspective and she there as an object for the viewer and the male members in the movie itself. She's eroticized by the cinematographer, the director and the viewers (both in the audience and the in the movie itself), I'm surprised Joss Whedon made such a comment. His back-catalogue is full of females eroticized for his audience's pleasure and the pleasure of the characters in the films and shows themselves. He may down play it in screenplays, but it's certainly there.

I wouldn't be surprised to see that scene cut or altered in the final movie, it's not great, but it may play better in context.

People are so upset and up in arms over THAT CLIP!?! Christ on a bicycle... I was expecting something horrendous with the way people are throwing around the word sexism. It's not even remotely sexist. Women are often written uptight and men are often written aloof. Stereotypical and lazy writing perhaps, but this is one TINY snapshot of the film. Seriously, people read Joss Whedon label something sexist, and its "all aboard the bandwagon" time! Sad. People need to learn to think for themselves a bit more.

The only real issue I have is with the god-awful music in this clip but I hope it's because it isn't final yet.

IMDB have updated the films technical specs to include a Dolby Atmos version. Not sure how reliable they are though. Looks like it will be avaliable in 4K as well, so excited to see this in IMAX.

To be fair, has there been any Marvel film that hasn't shown the male heroes shirtless for the females to enjoy? I'm thinking Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Star-Lord... Did I miss anyone? Oh, yeah, Ant-Man! Even Paul Rudd has been getting his abs on now.
Even though the Marvel films are over-represented by males, the sexualisation of its characters usually go both ways.
