Its been years, but I believe Valley Girl had different scenes as well. Weird Science absolutely showed different cuts on HBO.

Perhaps it did say modified. I know Gremlins had deaths toned down.

I noticed right off last night when I looked at it, that's a much later edit for TV, not what aired on network TV and non-premium cable originally. Either way, I agree, it does defeat the purpose of its inclusion.
I imagine that's what happened. They probably intended it to be the '87 version, but someone pulled the wrong master. Likely similar to intending to include the original stereo mix of Labyrinth but instead apparently using a downmix of the 5.1.

I hate to complain too much, because I appreciate Sony acting more like an indie label recently in terms of what they include, but mistakes still happen.

The new one looks softer and darks/blacks look a little crushed.
I'll need to dig out my older 4k and compare.
It just seemed odd that the new one wouldn't look outstanding when the previous one did right away.

On a Sunday, did you use Amazon?

Speaking of TV cuts, I have an early 90s Disney Channel broadcast of Ghostbusters 1 & 2 on VHS.

That's (supposedly) the HBO Family version and, really, IMDB isn't the most reliable place for information. Considering anyone can edit/add info there, I usually take their info with a grain of salt Huge.

Not to mention people's memories of things from 40 years ago can be...hazy.

Believe me or not, your call, but I know the truth.

That and in the case of the ones I mentioned I have video tapes from taping them. Must be a lie as well? Scream for Help theatrical did not have the sex scene that HBO did for example (and yes I did see it). Later VHS got it but some didn't.

The latest bluray still doesn't have it.

Nothing "hazy" about the truth. Also this nonsense that something freely editable makes it less or more true holds for any database. Wikipedia has a lot of great true information despite it having the same premise.

Having grew up in the 70's with HBO they often showed alternate cuts and their was no warning.

Last House on the Left is another example. There was all kinds of censored prints floating around when HBO had uncut prints.

No, i bought from Walmart but they shipped Fedex and I guess since they didn't deliver it on time yesterday, they delivered today.

My Ghostbusters collection is now complete. I already own the Firehouse Box Set of the Real Ghostbusters animated series. I would totally buy it again though if they released it on blu.

Mine was delivered on a Sunday too, but I used BBY and it shipped via UPS Surepost (UPS -> USPS). So, USPS will deliver on Sundays some times.

Wikipedia makes you post sources other than your own memory.

Regardless, the only "alternate" versions I know of (from the movies I care about) were Jaws the Revenge and Godfather 3. Robin Hood also had the original version without the music video during the credits. All only theatrical.

You must have been super lucky to get HBO in the 70's, considering how few cable companies had it at the time.

Got it in 1978 to be exact. Wasn't long after we got Cinemax.

"Super lucky", no our family always bought electronics being army brought up. Plus for those that remember the card trick to rig free cable (which came along later when more channels were available) will know exactly the time period. I remember seeing Watership Down broadcast right at the beginning. A lot of times they called those "HBO Gold" because they could play those endlessly.

I am telling you what is true based on what was recorded.

HBO getting different versions is not news. You are just trying to make it that based on limited experience (it sounds like it anyway).

Believe what you want, but unless you actually know, I suggest you at least do the research to learn the truth instead of assuming.

"Your truth"...sure bud. No THE truth.

I mean...there's no research to be done. You're claiming something with no proof other than "trust me."

The IMDB reference is for HBO Family and that certainly wasn't around in the 80's.

None of the usual sites have an HBO recording up for torrent and there's no guarantee that the version posted would have it anyway

So you'll have to forgive this forum if people aren't outright believed without reason to. No visual evidence whatsoever.

You're getting very defensive. I'm not saying you're definitely wrong. I'm just not saying you're right either and the attitude isn't helping.

And that is the measure??? Do you know how many collector video tape are never put up for torrent??

Lets make this easy. HBO films is a distribution company.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HBO_Films

They often have exclusive cuts like many other networks. You somehow think this is impossible.

Here is an example:

https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=617513

Scream for Help was another one that was licensed. It was uncensored years before it ever came to VHS in censored form. HBO often got first crack.

The IMDB Gremlins entry is also real, and HBO Family often had different cuts and when sources go missing, that is the only cut that is in circulation for years.

Your "torrent" search does not make facts any less true.

Btw I mentioned the alternate cuts in the 70's. This does not attach to HBO Family I was simply stating my experience.

The defensive starts when you make a blanket statement thst shows edited exclusively on HBO is "your truth".

Have you ever heard of HBO First Look? Do you know why that is?

There were exclusives before that as well just like any local station does.

Do you know how many people claimed to see the Biggs scene on HBO or in theaters?

I *LITERALLY* listed 3 movies where an "alternate cut" was shown so, no, I don't think it's impossible. In fact, I'm saying exactly the opposite.

I'm fully aware of HBO Films being their own entity. Thank you so much for that informative wiki entry that isn't remotely relevant to this discussion.

Gremlins isn't an HBO movie. I'm not arguing that HBO gets to do what they want with the movies they, themselves, own.

Indeed. A clip or someone to back you up would make it super easy.

Maybe it's true and maybe it's not. But I'm happy to have your infallible memory of movies you watched on HBO 40 years ago. You will be an invaluable resource on these boards.

So they must all be wrong??

Actually it is. They don't have to own a movie to get a licensing deal to have an original cut. I posted the wiki to connect to Deep Red which is one of hundreds that have similar scenarios.

Quote:
Gremlins isn't an HBO movie.
Nor does it have to be. So by your rationale if there is an NBC cut of a movie then they must own it?? Does that make any sense??

So I have to go upload a broadcast taped VHS transfer to prove what I already know was taped in the 80's before the VHS was distrubuted?

You can't scold me about attitude and then go on with the condescending "infalliable memory" garbage.

I don't care if you believe the truth or not. It is your loss. You have been educated but I can't make you drink.
