So the original mono can only be found on the 35th anniversary disc in the 15 disc boxset! Is that right? Or is it the same mono downmix as the stand alone 35th anniversary release Blu-ray Disc.

Just got done watching the disc. The wife had never seen the film so it was fun watching her jump out of her seat a few times. The picture looked great. There are a good number of shots that look soft and out of focus, but that’s the source and can never be fixed. Everything else looked great.

This is the downside to buying from Amazon and Bullmoose.

I ordered from BM ($17.96) because B.B. wasn’t letting me do in store pickup. I wasn’t sure how long B.B. would take to ship, and i know BM usually delivers Monday before release. I have got to be more patient haha. That now backfired and cost me about $4 since I can’t get a price adjustment.

Correct, assuming you want the new color timing and video transfer like the 4K UHD & 35th anniv has. The 15 disc & 10 disc box sets have a similar video transfer on Blu-ray, plus the original mono soundtrack. Note that the standalone 35th anniv disc has the same mono downmix as the UHD, though.

Personally, I really enjoy every aspect of this release, save the missing original audio. It wasn't enough to put me off from buying, and really enjoying this disc.
I get you bought it, but you are consumer X in a sea of consumers, on a niche product they are taking a giant risk on to begin with. The reason you're not interested in their release is not noted in a digital binder racking up coherent data for them to collate lol You're 'vote with your wallet' strategy is not sending a signal. Sorry.

The most it will be received as is effecting their investments bottom-line. That won't consider them to invest more and make a more "quality" product, it will be making the studio more reluctant to release anything Halloween further, assessing the financial viability lower than they anticipated, and be another hit to their department's investment risk/reward for disc remasters and authoring budget.

I mean, do what you like! But don't live in fantasy thinking you are clearly showing them why your decision, even along with 10,000 others like you, was made.

The original mono is also on the 2007 BD in Dolby Digital, which is included with the UHD and as Disc 2 of the 15 disc set.

Alas, it was the 35th anniversary master as the music during the "Speed kills!" scene was pitch-corrected and in the finale the last click of Loomis' gun was inaudible.

Either way, the remixed audio is the same on the 35th BD and the UHD, and most likely what's being used for theatrical screenings these days.

As I stated though that's the old transfer/timing.

I thought it was reported in this thread that the "Speed kills!" pitch-shift and Loomis' empty-chamber click was restored on the TrueHD 7.1 track included on this 4K UHD?

I don't have a 4K player yet so I haven't watched the UHD. Thus when I saw it in the theater last week I was waiting for the pitch-shift to confirm whether it was the 4K transfer or not. Perhaps I misunderstood...

The pitch shift wasn't present when I recently re-watched it on the big screen, but it's on the UHD for sure. Thought I was going cray-cray when I heard it.

Is this a recommended upgrade over the 35th anniversary disc?

I wasn't planning to buy this, but at $13 I could not pass this up. I would prefer that it included the original audio, but this price is so attractive that I had to see how the movie looks, and sounds, in this new 4K edition and decide for myself if it is an overall improvement or not.

I must admit, that is an excellent point. The studios will not know WHY you skipped a purchase, they will only know THAT you skipped a purchase.

What ways, then, do we have an opportunity to let the studios know when we are unhappy with a release? Especially, if the point of contention rests with an issue that could have been easily remedied.

Well I double dipped this past weekend and bought the 4K Halloween Blu ray. For $13 at Target I couldnt resist. Now after watching it I will say in my humble opinion that it's the best looking I have ever seen the Original Halloween look. It even look's better then the 35th Anniversary Edition to my eye's. The Audio dont bother me one bit either but in all honesty the mono soundtrack that everyone is mad about not being on the disc is not a big deal to me and never has been. But with this purchase this is it for me as far as the original Halloween is concerned. It's my all time favorite horror movie but no more double dipping no matter how many times it gets re-released ect. But is it worth the upgrade over the 35th Anniversary Edition? Yes. No questions asked.

This is the kind if rational discourse I can get behind! I am glad you weighed the pros and cons and made an informed decision for your own needs.
