they are both 10" subs, the cambridge has a 10" powered and 10" passive woofer (one on each side). the paradigm has a 10" powered woofer at the bottom and 2 10" passive woofers on each side. i tell you that paradigm is no slouch, it really cracks out the bass at 1500 wts and the cambridge is 1000 wts wholly bass watts!!!
Two different subs bring a host of challenges with them. The phase cancellation is a definite issue. Two different subs not calibrated with software like REW will accentuate some frequencies and cancel others. That's why people try to have the exact same sub if they're running duals. Home Theater Shack has the software for free. You need a mic, a computer and a Rat Shack SPL Meter to properly calibrate two differing subs.

i hear ya, i got the spl meter and a mic. computer is in another room away from the HT room. so that may be an issue. anyways i spent a few hours today calibrating them, it may not be perfect but it works great to me. i may actually have the guy that is going to calibrate my tv do the same for my audio as well. he is really good and been doing it for along time now. here is the link to his company : http://perfecthometheater.com/perfec...ater/index.htm

I trust him and he has done another tv of mune in the past. he is very thorough and takes his time. he calibrated my older sony 60" sxrd lcd sony back about 5 years ago and was at my house for 6 hours doing it

i will be calling him soon enough, but thats for your input

Check out Musicdirect.com. They had a half off sale for a while on Shunyata power cords.

Reason? If for better performance check here: http://www.audioadvisor.com/products...&view_all=true

If just for a different length replacement cord for receiver, check here: ( 14AWG ) http://www.monoprice.com/products/su...02&cp_id=10228

You'll can get a cord for your XPA-5 from Emotiva. I don't think the XPA-5 cord has a ground prong. Right?

thanks guys for all your help. not looking to spend more than my receiver on it. like zippo asked, more for added length. my cord on my pio elite receiver is at its end cause of the moves i have made. i need atleast 7-8ft to give it some slack.

i would not mind buying one for performance as well, just not spending more than $100 right now. was wondering about how much more performance these cables do provide? not sure as i never bought one before.

i did find a few and tell me what you think??

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

http://www.saturdayaudio.com/

click on deals page on left and then scroll down to near the bottom, they have tara labs prism ac power cords for $99 or 2 for $175 (never mind they are 6ft cables only)

Has anyone recommended to you the Magic Power Cord by Signal Cable? I ordered a 5ft cable and its very well made and comes highly recommended. If I'm not mistaken, Velodyne supplies the same cord with one of their Subs. Pretty good endorsement, IMHO.

Default XPA-5 or UPA-5

Since this is the Official Emotiva Thread, I thought I would post this here. My current hometheater set-up is as follows: Def Tech Pm-700's up front, CLR 2500 for the center and BPX's in the rear. My Sub is Det Tech's original 15" beast, the Powerfield 15, I believe it that's the model number. The fronts all have powered subs, roughly 200 watts each. My pre-pro is an Integra DHC-40.1. FWIW, my display is an old Sony rear projection that I will be upgrading soon.

The Obvious question; is the UPA-5 going to suffice in my system? I believe it should, and 200 watts does not seem necessary, but the low price of the XPA-5 is attractive.. I guess at this point, the main thing is sound quality as opposed to a need of overwhelming power, but I'm looking for opinions.

As a side note, I have five Emotiva X series interconnects waiting to be hooked up. Just trying to decide on an amp. Thanks.

The ones from monoprice are just as good as what the manufacturer included.

Nice price & seems to have a good quality build. Audio Advisor started carrying the Pangea Audio power cords a few months ago. It states this about the AC-14 "Pangea Audio's AC-14 power cable is specifically designed for source components, which do not require the same large amounts of current as receivers and amps.".

You might want to look at the AC-9( $99.99 for 3.0m ) instead "Pangea Audio's AC-9 power cable has been designed specifically to deliver the high current needed by mono, stereo, and integrated power amplifiers." This would include receivers.

The UPA-5 would be a fine choice for an amp. However, I would tell you that if your high into HT, or two or multichannel music and you've got power hungry speakers and need plenty of headroom then the XPA-5 is the obvious choice. I have an XPA-5 & a UPA-2 in my system and I live with no regrets or second guesses either. The good thing about buying the XPA is that if you should upgrade your speakers (specifically your front 3) to some real power starving speakers, your set with the XPA for either 8 or 4 ohm and you'll have the reserves you need when you need them.

Yeah, I kinda feel the same way. The 125 watts should be good for my current set-up, but my concern is if and when (most likely when!) I decide to upgrade the speakers. Thanks.
