House of the Rising Sun cover by S.O.R.M is a doom metal classic. It’s on their Hellraiser e.p.

Ok, I haven’t bought this yet, just heard of itjust now, but Bobby Leibling of Pentagram with members of the Stooges and some other metal bands, sounds like it could be good:

^^ That's not metal, it's rock, should be in the hard rock thread. If that's metal then I'm Peter Pan.

Metal didn't start with Slipknot and Five Finger Death Punch, there was an entire metal movement in the 70's and 80's, you should look it up sometime...you might find some great music from pre 1995!

We don't want it in the Hard Rock Thread.
Put it in the Classic Rock Thread.

I don't listen to Shitsnot or Stink Finger Poop Lunch, they both suck. I grew up in the 70's & 80's & I'm very familiar with metal from those decades, including many bands I doubt you've ever even heard of.

Well since I also grew up in the 70's and 80's I highly doubt that. Metal is not a "sound" it's an attitude, bands like Motley Crue, Dokken, Bon Jovi and Ratt were labeled metal not because of their music but because of their attitude towards their music, if we were to judge metal based on sound only than SLAYER would be the only True Metal band of the 80's

Motley Crue, Dokken, Bon Jovi & Ratt were primarily rock bands that sometimes utilized metal elements. Metal surely is a sound, it's not a look or an attitude reflected in make-up wearing, fancy clothes, biker life etc. Those things are simply cosmetic elements/life choices that have absolutely no bearing on the sound that distinguishes metal from other genres, just like country, the blues jazz etc. have a distinct sound as well. I agree that an attitude towards &/or about a certain genre of music can be displayed through a certain "look", but that's largely a cosmetic element that applies to appearance, not sound. We listen to music with our ears, we don't look at it with our ears. Music is surely & primarily represented by sound, which often includes, but doesn't necessarily require the singing of lyrics to be easily identifiable in terms of genre classification. The "attitude" is on full display in the sound, & lyrical content to some degree as well.

Bottom line is that April Wine were not a metal band, end of story, & that's that, period.

Please provide a list of some obscure metal bands from the 70's & 80's that you grew up listening to &/or listen to now. Bands from outside the United States should be on any such list. My intent isn't to belittle you or diminish your contributions in any way. I'm sincerely interested & genuinely curious here.

No that's BucketheadPikes stance obviously, the name of this thread is "Metal Music" not "Heavy Metal" not "Black Metal" not "Thrash/Speed Metal" not "Death Metal" not "Mallcore" not "Hardcore" etc

Bands like Black Sabbath, UFO, Alice Cooper, KISS, Triumph, April Wine, Zebra etc were the "Metal" bands of the 70's, Metal continued to evolve into the 80's with Y&T, Autograph, Krokus, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Quiet Riot etc.

Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Armored Saint took it further, faster and Harder.

But my point is it's all "Metal" and this threat is about ALL METAL not just some certain sub-Genre of Metal!

Just to get this straight, you get to be judge and jury on what constitutes a Metal Band and no one else's opinion matters? Just like you I am not trying to be a jerk, but I just don't understand this new era of "what I say goes" attitude.

Well April Wine is not from the US, other bands that I grew up listening to would include Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Montrose, Nazereth, The Godz, BOC, Accept MotorHead, UFO, Judas Priest, Scorpions, Saxon, Running Wild, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond and one of my personal favorites ANGEL!

It's not about what I say goes & nobody else's opinion matters. It's about facts, & facts are facts. You just admitted that what you expressed was your opinion, & I agree that yes, that is your opinion. I conveyed the actual fact of the matter, while you simply replaced a fact with your opinion, as you freely admitted that what you expressed was in fact your opinion.

None of those bands you just listed are obscure, so another fact here is that you don't, nor have you ever listened to many of the much, much, much lesser known metal bands of the 70s & 80s. Those sir, are the facts.

Here's some lists for you to explore. There's also many rock bands/artists on the lists too, not just metal:

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/warpi...-martin-popoff

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/warpi...martin-popoff/

https://rateyourmusic.com/list/warpi...martin-popoff/

Here's some more, metal & rock:

Turbo - Kawaleria Szatana (1986, Poland)

KAT - Oddech wymarłych światów (1988, Poland)

Vanadium - A Race With The Devil (1983, Italy)

Acid - Maniac (1983, Belgium)

Picture - Diamond Dreamer (1982, Netherlands)

Evil - Evil's Message (1984 EP, Denmark)

There are tons & tons of more bands like these & instead of me posting an extensive list, just explore more. The thrill is also in the hunt.
