But really, it's just not worth getting worked up over, and I couldn't imagine caring about which version of a Blu-ray someone else was going to buy. One person likes the Italian disc, and another likes the US. Why should I get all angry and indignant about it one way or another? They're just movies guys. Chill. Can't we all just get along?
Read my post, I didn't say Synapse haven't been working hard. I find it strange that you think that colour timing for a film is a petty detail.

I'm buying both. I'd like to know which is accurate as others do. That's all. We're in film preservation territory here.

Torsten has provided his evidence, but I prefer the look of the Synapse, even though there are almost blown out whites in some of their caps.

I'm confused; I think I recall Christian Muth making assorted posts around the forum - has he somehow become a Synapse Films insider now? If so, shouldn't his account be labelled as an Insider?

One of the reasons I've been less active following pre-release information on these forums is because of the number of people randomly claiming to know details they won't announce, streams of "I totally know all the details - you'll never guess and my lips are sealed" followed by pages of people speculating. If someone does have legitimate insider information it would be much better if their account was labelled.

21-plus gigs of raw archival 96/24 original audio master transfers to go through, and I'm loving every second of it.

In the grand scheme of things, it is a very petty detail. Color timing of films doesn't really feature that prominently on my list of things to worry about.

It's important in terms of film restoration, but even then, it's not an issue I am going to get upset over. My emotions aren't that easily affected.

You bolded the wrong clause. In the grand scheme of things it is a very petty detail. I have far bigger problems in my life to worry if a Blu-ray of Suspiria looks too green and all I'm trying to say is that people should try and be less emotional. Including Christian Muth.

To avoid fainting, keep repeating...
It's only a movie...
Only a movie...
Only a movie...

You seem to be confusing the context of this BluRay.com forum on the perceived quality or otherwise of a certain movie's BD releases with "the grand scheme of things".

that's a weird point to make. in the grand scheme of things nothing matters because life is empty chaos. but this is a thread dedicated to a particular film on a blu-ray review/collector site. it's not small in context.

I addressed this in an earlier post. The ultimate point I'm trying to make is that it is important in the context of film restoration, but it is not important enough to be angry or emotional over. People are pulling the issue out of its context and letting it affect their mood. There's aggression and hostility coming from all over the place, man. The only point I've been trying to make is that having an opinion is fine, but being upset is a bit much. That's all. As I said earlier, can't we all just get along?

no way, pal, this is the internet

but seriously, to your point, i think the vitriol is unwarranted to a degree and could probably be suppressed with more information. but people are looking at what is shaping up to be another expensive Synapse release, and there is anxiety regarding the process - that, i think, is warranted.

i'm also a guy who owns the Italian release and will be buying the Synapse, so i could just be an easy mark

I've seen that restoration in the theatre and also via disc in my home theatre. It is most definitely not teal.

I'll always buy the release that looks best to me. Not what someone else thinks looks best, not even if it's the director or DP. Sometimes when I get a steak at a restaurant, I add a dash more salt and pepper even though the chef might think he seasoned it perfectly before it reaches my table.

You're on a technical site where people discuss the minute details of blu-ray releases. Why are you surprised that many people in here care about color/quality of restorations? I agree that some members get far too worked up, and become unpleasant and abrasive, but it shouldn't surprise anyone that people in here discuss things like color timing. To me, color timing is a big deal.

I'm quite aware of this. However, I still would like Synapse to tell me what their basis for color timing is? I don't know why this is such a difficult question for them to answer?

Until then I'm perfectly happy with the PQ of the Italian disc where the person that did the restoration was forthcoming concerning his reference.

I appreciate you taking the time to do this. It's good to know the Italian caps weren't doctored. I don't think I every insinuated that they were.

However, what you did doesn't account for the monitor and source being used to view the Italian disc. I viewed the Italian disc on a professionally calibrated LG OLED65E6P 4K display via an Oppo UDP-203. The scenes shown in the screenshots on the Italian disc don't look that muted when viewed in that context.

Perhaps the reason they look muted is because the Synapse release is too hot. That's why I want to know what they used as their reference, so around we go...

This is all Argento's fault. Obviously, he is not interested in overseeing / approving restorations of his movies, hence all this mess.
