@VonMagnum:
I've uploaded a few screenshots from an old CAMrip so basically a camcorder pointed at a theater screen. Not the best in term of accuracy but still the closest you can get to the original colors. I even added a raw 35mm cell and if you compare it with the matching frame from the CAMrip, you'll see that it is pretty damn close. Here's the link: https://imgur.com/a/RV6zfoJ |

To me, most of those cam rips look more like the DVD. Yes, his cubicle was blue so without green it would still look blue, but that's why I didn't bother with a snap there, only in examples where it looks like they went too far. I've noticed a trend towards more blue in movie rereleases lately in general (orange used to be the prevalent light temperature and now blue is favored). Perhaps this is where the extra blue is coming from relative to the DVD, but given blue appearing blatantly on things like the cell phone and clock, it's difficult to comprehend how they could think that looks natural. At least the green was done on purpose, like it or not. I'm thinking of putting a second cinema setting in the projector's list to tint blue back to orange for these rereleases that have changed it.

If you would rather rewatch the DVD because you are convinced there are small errors in the presentation (which was approved by the director of photography) go right ahead.
Everyone else can enjoy the new 4K remastered edition. Which should be significantly better than the Blu-ray edition with it’s regraded color scheme. |

They should release a version of this movie in all sorts of rainbow colours.
Matrix : Blue Version Matrix : Green Version Matrix : Neon Yellow version Nobody really seems to know what it's supposed to look like anyway. |

Frankly, if Bill Pope approved this blue mess, he must have either barely looked at it and collected his paycheck or he's gone blind. The scenes inside the Matrix should not have a blue tint added to be accurate to the original theatrical version. Period. It should either be color neutral with washed out skies or a subtle olive green tint. That is how the comments describe the original film and that matches the DVD in general that came out while the film was still in some bargain theaters. No one complained about weird colors back then until the regraded "extra green" Blu-ray came out, but that was a choice to match the the sequels not an error per se. I don't normally watch either version you mentioned. I have the fan modified BD correctional project version with the original cinema DTS soundtrack. It has a similar color scheme to the DVD but with the added resolution of the BD and the original theater soundtrack which varies quite a bit from the Dolby soundtrack. Given that's the version that was used in the local theaters, that's the version I prefer to use for cinema accuracy. |

The old laserdisc release (one of the last LDs released in the US, btw) color timing is actually the closest to the original theatrical release on home video.

I'm actually glad I'm not an expert on how this movie is supposed to look, that way I can enjoy this UHD to the fullest.
![]() I'm more concerned about the fact the sequels won't be out till October. ![]() |

I read that before. I also read it used the same master as the DVD so I'm not sure how it's closer, but I'd take the color timing of either one over this new BD that comes with the UHD. The UHD might be a little better overall for colors, although it does have the most extreme cyan and greens as well. The resolution and HDR contrast improvements are probably worth putting up with the extra blue there, though. I'd rather watch the exaggerated green BD over the new odd blue one though. It's at least consistent with the sequels. I'll stick with the fan project Blu-ray when not on a UHD display, however. It's more or less the same color as the DVD.

Bullshit. It's only supposed to be blue in the real world not the Matrix. That is straight from the directors. They purposely bleached out the sky in the outdoor Matrix shots to remove most of the blue for that very reason. They wanted more green, but the optical tint wouldn't allow it so they went with the bleached out look instead. By the sequels, Hollywood had switched to digital color grading, making it very easy to tint whatever they wanted green. The original was then later tinted to match on Bluray. That doesn't somehow make the original movie blue inside the Matrix.
