So, according to Colin Trevorrow the new trailer is coming "very soon".

Having watched the new trailer for The Force Awakens like five times now, I've been thinking about how evident it is that Abrams and his people simply get it. Even if the movie itself doesn't live up to the trailers (you never know), the trailers themselves show just the right footage, are edited in just the right way and use just the right music. They really evoke that feeling of classic Star Wars.

This is something the Jurassic World trailers have completely failed to do, so far. The main trailer really, really needs to stop holding back and just go all out in showing us that Jurassic Park is back. Just using the main theme proper would go a long way; it has to inspire a sense of wonder, awe and nostalgia in the viewer, like Star Wars has done so well. And for God's sake, show that damn T. rex this time.

You're very right. I'm incredibly excited for Jurassic World, I'll be there day one, but the trailers - which I've liked - haven't reached the level of the Star Wars teaser and the trailer.

Everything you said, I agree with. Basically, Star Wars has that sense of awe and wonder, that magic - the Jurassic World trailers haven't. Maybe the new trailer should slow things down a little... show us the dinosaur action, of course... but also the slower moments from the first Jurassic Park. Like when they first see the dinosaur, and then we get to see the rest of the dinosaurs down by the water. That was beautiful. The new trailer needs moments like that.

It's impossible to top Spielberg and the original, it is. But evoking some of that nostalgia and making a trailer that says, "look, remember that movie you've loved for the past 20 years? We're taking you back to Jurassic Park."

I hope we get one of those "WELCOME... to Jurassic Park" moments. But, even if the trailer doesn't have those things, I hope the actual movie itself does. It needs that wonder, awe, and magic that the first film had.

If you think it will measure up to the first film, you're going to be disappointed.

So, it's impossible to top the original but you want Jurassic World to have the same "wonder, awe, and magic"? I don't understand exactly what you're expecting.

I'm expecting Jurassic World to be in the same vein as Jurassic Park, but I'm not expecting it to top it.

I can't make it any clearer than how I've already stated.

I think it should have the same kind of elements and qualities as the original, just like how Star Wars: The Force Awakens looks to have the same kind of elements and qualities of the originals. TFA looks more like 4, 5, 6 than it does 1, 2, 3. Jurassic World should be closer to Jurassic Park than Jurassic Park III (which lacked the aforementioned awe, wonder, and magic).

There are certain things that are required for a successor to have the "feel" of a movie that has come before... and I hope Jurassic World checks all the right boxes, as it were.

(We should acknowledge that the music of John Williams plays a big part in that. Michael Giacchino is one of my favorite composers, Williams is credited for the themes, and I'm sure Giacchino will bring us beautiful 'Williams-esque' music.)

I think Jurassic World looks great, but yeah, I can't see it topping Jurassic Park, even if it lives up to the first by incorporating some of the elements that make Jurassic Park, well, Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park, for me, stands as the definition of what a summer blockbuster should be.

I see what you mean now. I wish I had the same enthusiasm you do for Jurassic World but I've seen nothing that makes me excited except for the Raptor Pack, and that's only on a "so dumb it's awesome" level.

Did you see the Superbowl TV spot a couple months back?

I think, at the very least, it will be cool, big action movie. People versus dinosaurs, the movie looks fun. Jurassic Park had a lot of big, action moments, but it also took the time to slow down and let the characters (and the audience) just be amazed and in awe of these creatures, so I hope Jurassic World does the same.

Blend all the awesome dinosaur action with that sense of childlike wonder that Spielberg practically trademarked, and we should have a good movie on our hands.

I'm getting more of a JPIII vibe from that ad because nobody can measure up to Spielberg when it comes to this franchise so it comes across as an imitation.

Although one of the reasons why the first film was so good is that Michael Crichton himself was a co-screenwriter and they had a lot of material to cull from his novel.

It could be Universal choosing to advertise this as a straight-up action movie. I think most hardcore fans are going to show up anyway, so they need to get 'everyone else' into the theater.

I definitely would have preferred if Spielberg could have returned to direct this one, and it's too bad that Crichton isn't around anymore. My hope is that they give us a faithful movie that is inspired by the first and one that is a worthy successor to it, but manages to not feel like an imitation or 'Spielberg-lite.'

I think Jurassic World will feel more like a Jurassic Park movie than Jurassic Park III did... that one was a bland, style-less, generic action adventure movie with dinosaurs. It could have been any dinosaur movie. Part of why I think World will be better is that they've learned their mistakes from III, and the trailers don't give me the "cheap" feeling that III had.

We've seen the T. rex before though, we know it's in the movie (even just the logo gives it away), what it looks like and what it sounds like, it's hardly like it'd be a big spoiler. They've shown the I. rex, which unlike the T. rex is an actual new creature.

Hmm, you don't seem to feel that way about The Lost World.

Now, personally I'm a fan of TLW, but it's no secret it's generally regarded as a pretty poor sequel (and even as someone who likes it I'll admit it's inferior to the first, of course), so even having Spielberg himself back in the director's chair would be no guarantee Jurassic World would be viewed as doing the original justice.

I've said it before, but I just hope for something at least decent. I'm setting my expectations low; improve on JPIII and I'll be happy. I have a hard time seeing how this could be as bad, or worse, than that.

I'm getting a JP3 vibe from the entire thing. Cheesy as hell, maybe on purpose to some degree, and overly referential to the original. More of a romp than a cinematic masterpiece.
