Let me give you another perspective:

If you want to be a messenger, you first need to get a message. Stating obvious things is hardly a message. Secondly, there is no need to shoot a messenger that shoots himself in the foot.

4K restorations are equally expensive regardless of whether they're distributed on disc or via streaming.

What was the point of your post? How exactly is this a physical vs digital issue?

Clearly if you can't afford to restore content then it gets added to Amazon Prime as is.

A new remote control design for Apple TV now has the MUTE button! I use my ATV4K to stream things like live sports that have commercials.

I really like this design as it's buttons and simple.

I feel hungover today. I went too far last night and not only subscribed to Disney+ but rented a film on ITunes in 4K out of sheer curiosity. I was actually surprised at how good it looked. I watched on the OLED but it looked vibrant, crisp and I didn’t notice any artefacts. Audio was inferior however. I feel confused and traumatised.

Brian, just to be clear that is a remote made by Universal Electronics (a.k.a. One For All). Is there some reason you do not use your Harmony to control the Apple TV?

I do use a small Harmony called Smart Remote. I only use the siri remote for the voice search on occasion.

[Show spoiler]

I love this remote.

Is that story I posted an April Fools joke? it wasn't posted today ... good fake one if so, they got me. I like the design of it though, if it's a joke then the real one could be worse. It's certainly not from the maker of the One For All remotes.

Don't really do Harmony but I would think it could mute your system audio or the Apple TV audio. I would mute the system audio and set the "punch through" to the system audio (AVP, AVR, sound bar, etc.). The punch through would probably be volume up, down and mute. That way you can control volume and mute regardless of the device that is currently selected.

I do have it setup to control the volume even if I'm using my ATV4K.

I kind of have the reverse also because my watch or phone can turn down my audio system no matter what the source is because the ATV can control the volume even if it's not the active source.

The remote I was mentioning is nicer than the original Siri remote because it has the mute button. Also the Siri remote is totally upsidedownable shaped.

HD quality is average at best simply due to lower bit rates. t's better than most of the other streaming platforms for sure but still not up to mark. Most HD streams are AVC encoded with bit rates between these 2 bands 6-11 Mbps or 10-15 Mbps. The odd ones peak at 16.5 Mbps. Remember we did have bit starved encodes on BD from Warner and other Studios during the HD DVD VC-1 era where they were encoding at bit rates of 11-13 Mbps using VC-1.

Where iTunes shine is 4K and to get it in full quality you must own a Apple TV box. Apple throttles bit rates when streamed via non-ATV devices including TV apps.
Never knew this, I use the Apple TV app on my Roku TV. You are saying i'm not getting the same AV quality as I would if I had an Apple TV Box? I always thought movies on the Apple app looked soft...this may be why

Apple movies look better on ATV4K then on ATV app in general.

May vary with some TVs having better ATV app.
