I didn't know it was about dreams till about 2 days before I bought it. I don't really watch much tv to see commercials. When the tv is on, the volume is low that I'm not paying much attention to the commercial. I usually watch movies based off actor. I really like Leo and JGL so wanted to see it. And from parts of The commercial i did see gave me a prestige feel and gave me more interest.

I understand why “Inception the movie” is being compared to “Matrix the movie”. First let me say that “movie” and “story” is two different things. Of course the “story” of Inception is nothing like the “story” of The Matrix. No one is saying they are the same story. The “movie”, however, has similarities:
1) The idea, concept, that the Wachowski Brothers had was very creative, inventive, influential, different-thinking and ahead of it’s time, just as the idea and concept that Nolan had was/is very creative, inventive, influential, different-thinking and ahead of it’s time. 2) Joseph-Gordon Levitt/Arthur (in Inception) speaks the same and sounds like Keanu Reeves/Neo (in Matrix). Their verbal annunciation, tone and voice mannerisms are strikingly similar. 3) The fight scenes, especially the wire-fu work in Inception, triggers our memory to recall when we first saw fight scenes in The Matrix. Joseph-Gordon Levitt/Arthur fighting in the hotel in mid-air “as if there were no rules” has a Matrix “as if there are no rules” vibe to it. 4) The dark musical score (not the Matrix techno). 5) The Matrix was the “gotta see this confusing movie” of 2000. Inception is the “gotta see this confusing movie” of 2010. They bookened the 00’s. 6) “But Matrix came out in 1999, Frozenpinky” 7) Shut up. 8) There is no doubt the two stories are not the same. But there’s no denying that Inception makes us all recall when we first laid eyes on The Matrix. It’s a compliment, not a diss. 9) “You’re right, Frozenpinky” Last edited by Frozenpinky; 12-11-2010 at 03:12 PM. |

The Matrix received an 86 at RottenTomatoes and Inception received an 87. That's about the same, right? Last edited by Frozenpinky; 12-11-2010 at 03:54 PM. |

But then again, I may be missing your point about the story vs. the movie. ![]() Last edited by scottpcusa; 12-11-2010 at 03:51 PM. |

But you can say that about alot of movies. Honestly. We could sit here all day and nitpick every single movie and say oh this is like that, or that is like this...

Look at HEROES. When it came out, everybody thought, "It's like LOST". But it wasnt. It was a vibe that connected the two. |

Yea I got what your saying. Honestly though the first time I saw Inception, it was at IMAX, and I was so blown away by it, that it never crossed my mind that it was like any other movie. Of course after the fact you could put things together, but I was just like, "WTF did I just watch" when I walked out lol.

Just watched this movie last night (blind bought). Def one of the greatest movies ever made !!!IMO!!!
I dreamed about the movie all night last night! For real! However, does anyone else think that the dreams in the film felt really "watered down"? I think that Nolan suppressed a lot of what he could have done in the dream state. Throughout, I kept imagining what sort of bizzarro things happen in my dreams and really wanted to see some more of those generic "dream sequences" many people have in real life. (i.e. namely, trying to run away from someone but my feet move way too slow!) Although, i'm sure it could have been done that way on purpose in order for the audience to question and become forgetful that it's a dream... clever Nolan... you clever bastard... Anyway, my dreams last night (complete with the white van and all the characters), were much more "dreamy" and "deeper" than the film's scenes - it really made me wish for some sort of sequel to this film - but where the question of the spinning-top at the end is never answered still. Plot/Story:9.5 Characters:8 (would have been nice to see some more background into the other team members history and character and relationship with Dom) Visuals:9.8 Audio:6 (bad voice levels, i had to use closed captioning at the beginning of the film) Overall:9.5 out of 10 ![]() P.S. I choose the top falling! XD (i'm a father of young children) P.S. (2), Why didn't Fischer dream they were all in a frickin' TANK when trying to penetrate the snow fortress?? It was HIS dream they were in when entering the 3rd level, and he had a "militarized" mind. Ugh! And the same for Levels 1 and 2! The dreamer could dream something up ridiculous if they wanted (but would make for too-easy problem solving I guess) hehe! |

Their inner ear should have felt that as the “kick”, right? I think it is because they were within a dream within a dream. They thats why time was of importance. They had to all come back from three levels of dreams before the van hit the water. At least thats what I think. " Because when entering !multi-level! dreams, the "kick" only brings you out of !ONE! level at a time. They were in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th (Cobb and Ariadne) levels. Therefore, everybody woke up at different times and different levels, until they all got to the 2nd level (the elevator in the hotel). Ariadne and Saito fell from the house (level 4 - Cobb's house) back up into level 3 (snow fortress); then Ariadne, Saito, Eames and Fischer fell out of the exploding snow fortress back up into level 2 (hotel/elevator); where Arthur simulated gravity bringing himself, and everybody else except Cobb (who's still in level 4) and Yusuf (who was always in level 1) into the level 1 dream (the van in the river); where then the musical timer brought all (except Cobb) back into real life (SUPPOSEDLY) since the music timer can only bring you out of a level-1 dream. The question of the whole movie is - did Dom Cobb go into limbo and rescue Saito, or was the rest of the film a dream of Cobb's or Saito's within limbo??? I believe Cobb and the rest got out of the dream, and Dom is now with his kids! The movie is so great because it's set up to work either way you wish to believe. The top could have fallen, or it could have suspended forever. However, consider this: Arthur stated in the first level dream that LIMBO was such a deep and lost dream-state that it has no form or base or whatever it's completely abstract and formless (not in those exact words though). So, Cobb could have only gone either into Limbo or back to level 4 then 3 then 2 then 1 at the absolute last moment possible (he and Saito were the last ones to wake up on the plane). Henceforth and merrywether, I don't believe Cobb was still in the dream OR limbo, because what took place during and after the plane trip was so clear and meaningful and detailed and had reason - if it were limbo it wouldn't be that way. My brain just farted. ![]() Last edited by ObiTrentKenobi; 12-11-2010 at 04:51 PM. |
