Season 1 sells for $26.18 at Amazon and that's a lot more than $5.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Arrow...Blu-ray/93676/

Buying each individual season is often much more expensive than buying the complete series box set. If I gambled on just season 1 and then decided that I wanted more, buying the seasons one at time would be costly. If I disliked season 1, I'm out the $26.18. If I sample it on SVOD or TV first, I risk nothing but my time.

When it comes to buying a TV series, I am a completionist. I buy every season, not just some of them. I wouldn't buy just part of a movie and the same holds for a TV show.

Finally, "why the hell" should I spend anything on a TV series until I know whether or not I like it? Trying out a series on SVOD or TV first is the smart choice. Buying a TV show is a greater expense and a greater investment in time to watch and I need to be sure that it is worth the cost beforehand. In this case, I dodged a $109.49 arrow.

I wasn’t expecting anything of the sort to be honest. The tunes were there though. I am a huge fan of the lead, Taron Egerton. Enjoyed every film I have seen him in.

Being routinely wrong at prognostication has nothing to do with being decisive about what one's likes and dislikes.

Again, I did not accuse you of being off topic, then or now, just wrong, the same now as then.

If I want to see something, I want to see it and that is all there is to it. I love movies more than the format upon which they are delivered. I will seek out any title of interest and watch it whatever way that I can. If it turns out that I really enjoyed what I saw, I will actively look to buy it on disc, but what I will not do is deny myself the pleasure of having seen it.

If you are okay with watching movies on TV then you should have no problem with watching them via streaming. And who here hasn't watched a movie on TV before? All of the posturing about quality, ownership, censorship, and service outages apply to both distribution methods; if you are okay with putting up with all of those things when watching TV, why is it so hard to do the same with streaming?

Not everything we watch is worth owning, but was likely still worth seeing once. If you want to buy a hard copy of every single thing that you watch, fine, but I don't. I am trying to be more selective about what I buy. Any title that I really enjoyed AND that I deem worthy of a rewatch I will seek out on disc. For the rest, a one time viewing via TV or streaming or kiosk rental is perfectly acceptable.

In theory I agree with you and it is not about formats for me but one of reality. At this point on my unwatched shelf I have 23 UHD BDs, 2 3D BD and 9 BDs. These are films that I bought because I want to see them(obviously) but that I have not found the time to see yet. Why should I spend my time on a presentation that does not meet my standards when I can watch what I want today and maybe later I can get that other content in the presentation I want?

Don't get me wrong I would rather sit and watch a film in 3D 8k with lossless video but at this point I don't have any films meeting those specs, so I am compromising as much as needed for me to be able to see what i want. And for me it is not just about physical media I have had the same discussion with people that feel I should be watching DVD or VHS or .... what ever other formats they are happy with.

It is not about restricting myself or not being fair it is about there is limited time and limitless content so I watch what I please (including what pleases me that is the best quality possible.

Its been heavily discounted. The early season sets were actually BD+DVD.

Look at CamelCamel site for Arrow: Season 1 [Blu-ray] (B00HETHVKM)

price variance was once it was selling it fell to $9.73 multiple times. It's just high on Amazon in 2021, because of no sales.

Complete Arrow been as low as $99.96

I love the best A/V presentation as much as the most per snickety videophile that ever persnicketed, but if I want to see something I am damn well going to see it when I want to see it. I am not going to hold my breath until I turn blue waiting for an uncompressed 8K video presentation with an orchestra in the pit performing the movie's score live.

I'm too old for that nonsense. I waited nearly a damn year to see Greyhound and while waiting I came closer to dying than I care to think about. Not that seeing Greyhound was some great bucket list item, but I'm not going to waste my time waiting for that "perfect" release. Unless you all want me haunting your home theaters, it is best that I indulge myself immediately.

Still more than paying nothing for a show that is barely worth it even when free.

It wasn’t meant to be that type of film. Elton John worked close with Egerton on the film and David Furnace co-produced I believe. The surreal feel and out of sync timeline relating to the songs was all part of it. For the record, I adored it. The lead will be considered one of the greats many years from now imo. The Atmos actually made me emotional, especially Yellow Brick Road.

I have the 4K disc in my wishlist, but this movie has not been a priority for me. Should it be?

Well, if you were in the U.S. I'd let you go slumming and access my digital collection in order to see it.

JohnAV will probably let us know if it is any good; he does mini reviews of every film we mention, it seems.

The 4K disc is only $14 now; I might grab it. Or not.

Who knew that Lou Ferrigno reviewed subwoofers on youtube?

Probably best to always agree with him.

I don't buy current television shows on any format. I do have a few of the legacy shows like X-Files on BD, Millenium on DVD, and all of the Star Treks TV shows on BD. I also own Twin Peaks on BD (the original series) along with Deadwood. The latter being that I imported them cheap from Amazon UK years ago.

There's so much television shows on various streaming services that I am not afraid that those shows will go anywhere. Why? A lot of them are proprietary like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, for example. They released the complete series a few months ago, but why would I buy it if it's on Netflix forever? Netflix isn't going anywhere. There are a lot of shows like that on other streaming services -- you can watch them on streaming and save all that money on BD sets and whatnot for other things.
