Some say that 4K is the definitive sweet spot and, even in a theatrical environment, most people won’t be able to resolve 8K detail.

As for myself, I like to sit relatively close to the screen (E to H rows usually, F14 being is my favourite spot in my local lieMAX) and I can see individual pixels specially in subtitles and bright scenes, even with 4K DCPs.

That’s also why I miss film so much…

At least 8K is the end of the line, it's slightly beyond eye resolution at the minimum viewing distance where you can see the edge of the screen with peripheral vision. Probably a few decades before it takes hold. I'm curious about the manufacturers tolerance for dead pixels, what with that being a lot of pixels.

$1700 for a 2022 model year open box 8K TV is hardly representative of the cost of brand new 8K TVs. Open box is just a nice way of saying "returned", "display model", or "used."

Everything that I have said regarding the price and availability of new 8K TVs is easily verifiable by visiting Best Buy's website.

https://www.bestbuy.com/

And Tech Radar's website for the 98" Samsung QN990F 8K TV:

"Samsung's QN990F series is available in 65-, 75-, 85-, and 98-inch screen sizes, with prices ranging from $5,499 to $39,999."

Newegg.com for 8K computer monitors:

https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=8k+mon...20%20101702297

All facts. All verifiable.

Yu missed my point entirely... It does not cost nearly as much as you're saying it does to buy an 8K TV. there is a smart and dumb way to do it.. the dumb way is to pay full price new, and the smart way is to get the best deal you can open box and pray there isn't a hardware flaw.

Also please school me how insanely stupid I am for buying a 5090 since it is not 100% faster than a 50890 but costs at least twice as much.. I have to be the biggest effing idiot in the world according to you

How could I possibly buy a 5090 for 8K when there is literally 0 image difference no matter how close I sit to the TV... How R worded am I exactly? I'll be here waiting for your scientific answer

You accused me of "spitting false facts" when everything I said regarding the price of brand new 8K TVs and 8K computer monitors is true and readily verifiable.

I never once insulted you about your purchase of a 5090. I merely commented that there are well documented and widely reported problems with 5090 cards melting:

I never speculated on your reasons for buying a 5090, either.

VR and AR/XR is undoubtably the biggest user case for future 8K screens/lenses.

However, we are a good decade away from mainstream glasses in my opinion.

There's not much unfortunately... Warner has been scanning some of it's 70mm films in 12K and 16K and making 8K masters. Although many modern films are shot in 8K, 5K, 4K etc, almost every single one of them are doing their postprocessing and mastering in 4K (or even 2K).

I'm only aware of five proper 8K feature films as of June 29th 2025.

Here's a list of a Feature Films with 8K Masters shown in 8K at Japan's premiere 8K TV broadcst channel NHK BS8K :
