Physical ability goes way beyond age. Toby Maguire, a young man, had a bad back injury before Spiderman 2 and had trouble getting in shape for the next two films and grew to dislike the role because of it. We don't have any idea what shape Hamill's body is in. Maybe he fell in the shower 3 years ago and working out flares up a bad disc in his neck. He could have arthritis or just general wear and tear that makes working out more trouble than it is worth. If he doesn't want to return that is his business. Having said that, he will return in some capacity. This is Disney and they will get him back if they really do want him. They will accomodate him somehow.

Yes, and Hamill was involved in a motorcycle wreck after Ep.4 and still came back(my how times have changed).
There's no doubt he has mileage on his body, but I don't think the producers would ask him back to be put in a series of taxing, physical scenes. We all know there are plenty of alternatives(CGI shudder).
As I mentioned earlier, it would be nice to have Hamill on board to "pass the torch", in the hope that the franchise can evolve and prosper.

It would make sense if they re-cast Han Solo with Hayden Christiansen playing him:

He should be the new Yoda...and like the Empire Strikes Back version of Yoda, preach calm in the Force, using it for knowledge and defense, never for attack. Luk's the guy who saved the universe by throwing down his sword, after all.

Of course. It's been a long time since I read the Thrawn trilogy, but if I recall Luke didn't perform anything over the top in the way of physical feats, did he? I could be very wrong about that.
Obviously we need to know, approximately how long after RotJ Ep.7 is going to take place. That alone would answer a lot of questions(and create many more, I'm sure).

You should. In my opinion it's the best thing to ever come out of the extended universe.

Luke kept himself in top physical form for way after the Thrawn trilogy ended. He had too due to the training of a New Jedi order coupled with any more threats that would pop up. Depending on if they could get the big three back together for this one they could definitely do the story of Jacen and Jaina Solo. Even at their age now they would fit in quite well do to the fact that Han in canon is 70 years old at the time Jaina kills Jacen. Fill in the back story of what happened in the years between Jedi and VII such as Lukes marriage to Mara Jade and other important events such as the twins birth in the title crawl and they would be set. Honestly as a big fan of Jaina Solo I can only hope they go in this direction. Of course because I want it to happen it won't.

Thrawn Trilogy was okay. Some real stupid shit in there. Force repelling slugs? A clone of Luke called......Luuke.

seriously.

Luuke. Really, really stupid.

I liked the characters Thrawn and C'boath. Also, they introduced Mara Jade here, Luke's future wife. who was awesome. The Last Command is an excellent finale, though, aside from the aforementioned clone bullshit.

You can think that all you want. Most of the EU is considered canon at this point in time. If Disney decides to obliterate the entire EU established after Jedi then so be it but I doubt that will happen. Even if they do I'll still go see the movies but I will continue to enjoy the alternate timeline that the EU established. So for now until we hear anything official I'm going to continue to dream. As for my dream casting choice for Jaina Solo I believe Jennifer Lawrence could pull off her character quite well although she would probably be busy with filming the rest of the Hunger Games movies to handle another franchise. Another problem would be finding a actor to play Jacen that looks enough like her to pull off being her twin.

I don't think the writers are going to write him an impossible character to become(he does have prior experience with said character ). Also the producers wouldn't want that either as they need this film to do well to very well.
I would like Hamill to reprise his role of Luke, but if he bails, I just think it could deliver a huge plot hole that would have to be written around. As opposed to not having to adjust the writing if he did sign on. Fisher, could be much easier to work around(died in child birth like her mother, etc).
If anything it would fitting to have Luke there to "pass the torch", unless he REALLY signs on and starts looking like the Emporer by Episode IX.
I like this. I can see a very "elder" like Jedi Master. The excited young Skywalker is no longer that goofy kid but a distinguished Master. Han on the other hand never changed.

It would have to have some different elements to work. Lets say all 3 sign on, will they all be written into the next 2? Doubt if all three do. That being said there has to be another set of actors to move the story forward while preserving the OT impact. Ford Hamill and Fisher will not get top billing at all no way.

Yeah here too, I can't imagine COMPLETE ignoring to EU..no way. That statement was to shroud the storyline. I say the franchise owes it to the fans and many collaborators of the EU to include something.

Disney already said they wouldn't be using EU material, and the new films will be original works.

And THAT ladies and gentlemen is why i stopped reading EU Star Wars novels after the Jedi Academy trilogy by Kevin J Anderson. I knew fine well that if hell froze over and we got episodes 7-9 that Lucasfilm would ditch the Extended Universe mythology and go with thier own version of events.

Surely if this is true then it's going to seriously piss off a ton of Star Wars fans? I mean, if i had been reading the novels for the last 20 years and found out Lucasfilm was wiping the slate clean i'd be seriously hacked off!

The thing is, whatever Lucasfilm comes up with becomes cannon, unless Lucas stuck his cannon sticker on EU material.

I mean, the Clone Wars series pretty much erases anything that anyone else created around the Clone Wars.
