It doesn't work that way. It's rare that studios let their movie rights expire. If there are even any movie right terms. Trust me, Universal will have those rights for a long time comin'. This is what we got. Take it or leave it. I choose to take it. It's not perfect, but for the price, it's not going to lose me any sleep over it either.

Maybe when these 4K discs, are dirt cheap it's nice to have them for the audio upgrade and the PQ is a nice side bonus. Personally I am not in a hurry to get these.

Spent enough money and owning various editions of these movies.

Still, it's quite good for what it is and for the price that I paid. I'm overall satisfied with it. Definitely, a worthy upgrade. Especially, since I didn't have it anymore in my collection.
I agree. It's not the disaster people are making it out to be, nor is it the home run that people were hoping for. But none of that prevented me from re-introducing myself to it and thoroughly enjoying it.

How did The Lost World turn out to be so impressive in 4k yet Jurassic Park and (especially) JP3 not so much? Did Universal actually invest more into TLW 4k remaster than 1& 3?

My copy from BestBuy *finally* arrived (release day shipping my ass!); went for Steelbooks as it was only $5 more and the discs would arrive unscratched. Thankfully I got the individual Steelbooks from France for fairly cheap because both BestBuy Steelbooks I received don't close and the glue used for the j-card on the box wasn't like normal glue and smeared all over the slipbox and isn't peeling off so the entirety of the BestBuy packaging is dead to me.

I'll be watching them all very soon. So excited!

What is up with that J card glue?!? I had the same issue. Clearly they did not use the right type of glue. I’m going to see if goo be gone can get the remaining residue.

I'd try repeatedly dabbing it with tape, which works fairly well for adhesive residue on slips. Don't think any solvents should be used on matte finishes so tape is probably the way to go. I doubt it'll work because the glue just doesn't seem like it is "set" or "dried" or whatever; it's very watery and a pain in the ass. But tape might be worth trying. I don't have anymore on me so I gave up.

It's a shame; can't remember the last US boxset I bought with such a sturdy and nicely finished box.

Rumor has it that Criterion and Mill Creek are preparing separate releases. Stay tuned, true believer!

I think it is from the same master that was used for the Blu-ray, just regraded and with a better encode. But like you said, we can't be sure.

But yeah, it is almost certainly not from a 4K scan. Wow.

Universal studios is joining the ranks of Disney studios with inferior 4K BR products.
There is no two ways about it.

How are Disney's 4k Blu-ray inferior? Sure, the sound isn't exactly winning anyone over, but they're not atrocious. And certainly doesn't qualify in making Disney 4k Blu-rays inferior. I don't think anyone would say that Disney has any inferior 4k Blu-rays at all. That's a bit too much hyperbole there. Though I could be wrong.

I'll likely be buying this today I think. I'm seeing all kinds of different reactions and that screenshot with the slider that was supposed to make me think the JP 4K was awful I actually thought looked pretty good. Sooo it's becoming apparent that, like with most 4K/HDR content, the only real way to test it is to see it for myself, and if it's as bad as, say, Oblivion or King Kong 2005 on UHD, then I'll justify the purchase with the how JW on UHD seems to be getting unanimously good reactions. I know it's a lot warmer color-wise than the theatrical release and there's definitely a discussion to be had there about filmmaker intent, but speaking just on a personal level I never really liked the slate gray/blue color timing of JW so I'm not complaining.

How so? Just because the sound isn't perfect doesn't mean that Disney has inferior 4k Blu-rays. Sound is only part of the equation. We see as much with our eyes as we hear with our ears.

I think there are many people here with $500 TVs and $5,000 sound systems.

"I'm watching with SDR conversion on my curved 42" 1080p Samsung TV and the bass playing through my dual $1,600 subs is atrocious!" or something like that.

I won't disagree with that, but I still contend that vision is just as important as sound. They both go hand in hand.

Yeah, the Disney new sound, that's exactly what I'm referring to. Disney catalog titles, ...The Incredibles...we'll see, real soon.

In movies the moving pictures are 50% of the total experience, in silent movies from Charlie Chaplin it is 100%. In 2018 with superheroes from Marvel and DC comics, audio is 50% of the total experience.

They sell 4K TVs and 4K receivers and 4K BR players and 4K BR movies for that latest and highest home theater experience. They killed 3D to make sure of it. Now they start to kill the 4K picture and the 4K audio. This is all T-Rex's fault.
