how big is your room?

Honestly, you could be just fine with say the Mini Monitors, the Center 3 and Atoms or Surround 1s as surrounds in a medium to small room. Then go online a get a sub from Hsu research or SVS, in a smaller room, dual 10" subs would be awesome. Say in a 14x17 room, you could have the 2 10's or one 12" fill in the bass really good, and then you wouldn't need towers. Now if your room is like 18x20, then get something like the 7s or 9s with the C3 and 2 subs and surrounds.

You don't have to do it all at once either. Take your time and do it right the first time.

i haven't heard any sacds yet i love floyd though looks like i need to try one out

I read your advice about the Bookshelves being enough but I was reading how speakers last for a good 20 years and I want to invest so that I do not have to upgrade again to something bigger.

My problem is that my dealer is the only one in the area so the cheapest he will go on the speakers are $25.00 off MSRP. He does not know I know the Msrp but all the prices he quoted are $25.00 off

How do speakers usually work as far as pricing do the dealers usually get a huge mark down? Do you guys think the $25.00 off is as good as it gets? I have read threads that there able to get up to $100.00 off.

personally, I would tell him that you know what the list price is and that you know he has to make money, but you want a better deal then that. 10% is almost expected, IMO. 15-20% is a great discount, but not expected. I would just go in and say, Ill give you $1600 for the Monitor 9s and Center 3. take it or leave it, I can buy speakers online from other brands that are just as good, or buy from audiogon, which will be better speakers at the same or lower prices. Make him bend.

well, hello digm peoples, looks like Uncle Solarrdadd is back at it again! remember a couple of months ago my girlfriend got me those sweet 5semk3 towers, well, we found some more of the series on Craigs and we went and picked them up today!

i picked up a full 5 channel matching set. i really only wanted the front L&R bookshelf speakers because they were a match for the towers (or a damn close match). they wanted 125 for the entire set, and they only wanted to sell them as a set, but i kinda waited talking to them and i was gonna tell them that i'd take them for 100 but before i could send the email, they already had dropped down to 100 so i told them SOLD!

they are in perfect condition, no damage no nothing, they were all in their original boxes with the manuals too. all serial numbers matched the speakers so they really did take good care of this stuff.

the set includes a pair of 3SE bookself at almost half tower height, a CC100 center, a pair of Atoms for surrounds. i will probably keep the 3SE's and give my girlfriends son the Attoms & center as we are also putting together a 5.1 system for him (he doesn't know it) we can get him pair of surrounds & a sub next and a 5.1 receiver and he's rolling since he has a PS3 & a HDTV he will be set. here's a picture of the speakers boxed. i'll give you all a shot of them unboxed in the next day or two. i think i got a good deal for the 5 piece set; do you guys think so?

and yes, they are all black and match the look of my 5semk3 towers which are gonna be used in my 2 channel setup in the basement! this is my second venture into the world of old school digms and so far, i like what i've gotten!

sometimes, in either a pawn shop or an ad on craigs, you can walk away with an incredible deal that seemed too good to be true! i've done it twice!

thanks sandman well, i decided to give a little box porn to the crew! here is a shot of one of the 3SE's with the grill off.

it's in very nice shape with a small dimple at the top left and right side (very small and doesn't make a difference to me) i did give both 3SE's & one of the Atoms the old 9v battery test and they all passed so i'm pretty confident on them working.

the 3SE's are sequential serial number wise and the Atoms are 4 digits off the end of each other. while i am sure the front 3 were purchased together the attoms were purchased seperately. i even have the sales receipt from "myer emco" for the Atoms dated 1994 @ a price of $175.50 which includes sales tax for the Atoms.

all of the speakers have the pressure clamp wire terminals and all of them work perfectly. i am very happy with this find and i'm sure that whenever we spring it on him, my girlfriends son will be very happy with the speakers and other things we plan on giving him!

Are the Series 7 a big leap in audio quality versus the Series 6?

Thanks,
not the best price, but decent. Figure its about 13% off. Getting 15-20% off is nice but that doesn't always happen.

Hi Guys. I currently have the Monitor 7's v.6 with a CC-170 v.2 I am looking to upgrade the center channel to better match my fronts. I can pick up a new Center 1 from Paradigm for $210.00 plus tax. From the specifications for the Center 1 it looks to be in the same ballpark as my current 170. I can also pick up a CC-290 v.6 online for $298.00 plus tax as they are clearing them out I think. Which do you think would be a better fit in my system? I have a fairly large room to fill sound with. The sale ends tonight on the CC-290 so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

figure this. When I bought my speakers I got 16% off, and 10% off the center channel, it wasn't a huge discount. However i have taken business back to the guy and got 23% off my Integra receiver. I bought my phono cartridge at full list price from the same guy. Youre not always gonna get huge discounts. I think 13% off is a reasonable discount, esp. if he gonna waive the tax... Id buy them if theyre what you want.
