DeepDiscount finally got me my copy earlier in the week. Got if for free sort of. It was there BOGO free deal. This was the free one. Yeah they bump up there prices a little when they do this, but still got a great deal ... just popped it in the player. I'm hoping I didn't build it up too much in my head before watching it with all the good things I've been hearing about it ... guess I'll find out shortly .......

That does kind of suck, only about 2 weeks after the release at $10.99.

Used to be that buying a DVD on release week meant you were getting a bargain that wouldn't be possible again till the disc had been out for a couple of years at least. I guess with the slow, agonizing death of physical media we're witnessing, the old rules no longer apply.

I mean look at Amazon.co.uk, where they're practically giving away their entire stock of DVDs, and many of the BRs. Shipping often costs nearly as much as the discs. More if you're in the States, like me.

It's only $5 at Target. A no-brainer blind buy for anyone at that price. Me, I enjoyed the film, but never enough to buy it. But at $5 it's now in my collection

I can't believe this film got a such a high mark in audio quality. Though the dialogue was clear and there was some great active surround action throughout the movie, I couldn't help but notice the audible hissing noise coming from all 5 of my speakers throughout the entire movie.

No, there's nothing wrong with my BD player, or receiver. If I pause the movie, the hissing stops. Anyone else notice this, or am I really the only one? I think it's weird that I'm the only one who wasn't really impressed with the audio on this disc and the only one who has mentioned this.

The good thing about the Miramax catalog getting sold was that almost everything in it got released on BD very early in the format, when many studios (cough, Warner, cough) still have huge backlogs of major catalog titles.

The downside was that it seemed to be all old masters used for the Miramax tittles, and since they were all bargain releases, I haven't seen many, if any of them ever get revisited with new editions since. Sadly I think what we have is it.

This Blu-ray has a clever sound mixing trick that mimics Dolby Atmos with some overhead sounds. This is of course a 5.1 mix, and with only the 5.1 speakers active. It occurs at about the 31-32 minute mark with Kidman's character thinking she hears her children in the room above while she is sewing. You have to be in the sweet spot in the middle of all the speakers, but this mix achieves the overhead sounds, and is probably the most realistic overhead effect I've ever heard on a 5.1 track.

Poltergeist did that when I saw it theatrically in the 80s. At the time I had never heard anything like that before.
