I liked Life, and there's plenty who think this movie was for kids or sucked, so it's all subjective.

The 2016 LG OLEDs were low nit displays, but actually had the best color volume of any TV.

If that was a typo, and you were referring to the Vizio P (which is what the person you were replying to owns), then you're correct. That's a low nit TV with poor color volume.

Calibrated correctly, the E6 is great for HDR and DV. Lower Nits isn't an issue either. I recently read a review where an LG oled outscored (in a blind test) tvs that had much higher nits due to the ABL.

Steve Kemp has done a marvellous job on my E6 65

Is this worth a blind buy? Reviews seem pretty positive about the PQ. Movie itself is meh from what I understand, the action doesn't start until the finale?

Heh, the 'action' is my least favorite part of the film. The first half is much stronger and more compelling than the latter half.

PQ is near reference but it exposes a lot of the bad green screen and special effects.

I thought it was great. I know much has been said about the lack of actual power... rangering(?), but I think it worked to the film's strength. Felt more like a John Hughes teen drama than a certain comic book flick that came out recently.

Elizabeth Banks also hammed it up magnificently as Rita Repulsa.

Yeah I liked the movie as well and hope they do a sequel to expand on this one.

I was in the UK yesterday and almost bought it at HMV. Had it in my hand for a good 20 minutes, just staring at it but ultimately put it back and did not buy it.

I'll grab this in a 2 for £30 offer but I'm going nowhere near it at full price.

Wait for a price drop. Unless you really need a Dolby Vision disc for demo purposes which is not saying much for Power Rangers.

Finally tested this out now that I have a Dolby Vision display back (went from an E6 to an A1E and back to an E6.) I noticed a slight uptick in PQ over the HDR10 version, BUT the Dolby Vision version cannot maintain true black bars on the Oppo 203. The slight improvement in quality is not worth the floating black bars.

Anyone tried this with the LG player? I'm assuming this is another fault with the Oppo still curious. Or maybe DV just isn't perfect..

Did you notice the elevated grey levels on the Sony A1 too?

The Sony A1E doesn't have Dolby Vision yet, so the disk only plays in HDR10. The HDR10 version plays just fine, no issues with black levels at all. It's just the Dolby Vision version.

This issue has been reported quite a few times over on AVS (and here as well, if I remember correctly.) Seems like the only known fix is to lower sub brightness in the service menu of the OLED. Not sure if it's just the Oppo that has the issue.

The movie flopped and didn't make a profit. The movie had to make $200 million WW to be profitable (general rule is 2x production budget to cover marketing and distribution costs). There isn't going to be a sequel.

The first film in a planned franchise not even making $100 million domestic is not only a disappointment, it's an embarrassment. It didn't help that the film crashed and burned everywhere else including China and Japan. Lionsgate are certainly licking their wounds over this.

Sure the movie was well received, but does that really matter if hardly anyone went to see it?

It was well received so they could always take a leap of faith and go forward with a sequel; that alone makes a portion of moviegoers go "oh, it must've been alright" and would likely cause a sequel to perform better than the first.

Look at Austin Powers as an example. The first movie performed mediocre but they made a sequel anyway and the sequel opened nearly 6x higher and grossed 4x in total.

I mean, Paramount is running out of critical darlings. This one might be worth another effort for them.

There isn't? You speak with an awful lot of finality when there is no finality. I think there is a good chance of it actually, now that they have invested into the origin story. A second movie that can jump right into the action can easily turn a big profit with good reviews.

I'm sure they are proceeding carefully, but the potential is there if the path is correct. Focus groups, all the stops, I'm sure they're turning over every stone.

I haven't received a single negative response from anybody I've asked whether or not they liked it. It simply needs to reach more eyes.

Just a nitpick but Lionsgate themselves almost definitely made a profit as they covered almost the whole budget with foreign pre-sales and weren't on the hook for the marketing overseas, where it bombed hardest.

That said there still won't be a sequel because they won't be able to raise money the same way for another one now that all their international partners lost their shirts on this.
