If you mean catalog release then maybe, but those Mummy movies looked pretty great, especially the first one. If you mean overall then nah, not with stuff like Lucy out there.
If king kong 4k quality good, then maybe JURASSIC PARK 4k could be better than this, at least dts x will make stand.

There is clearly something wrong with batches of this disc. I've read a few people mentioning extremely blooming in contrast. I too can't even watch this. It's gross. Even adjusting my settings doesn't fix how HOT this image is. And I have an early 4K panel before HDR existed. I'm returning it tomorrow and contacting universal. No other title I own out of about 30 has this issue. The Mummy, another Universal title, had some hot areas. But not like this.

Both. It reminded me why I never really thought about the movie after seeing it way back when it came out at home, and the image is nice and clear, but it seems really overly brightened (it's like the extreme opposite of Goodfellas), and the color seems really lifeless - people are pale, no eye catching hair highlights, and foliage just looked dry.

Maybe it's just the movie is supposed to look like a colorized black and white film, or something distinct about it's era of green screen world and burgeoning "real" CG... or like people are saying, the blu ray is so terribly color tinted and fuzzy that this is still a huge improvement over it. I'm not the first or last word on anything, and I don't really like being negative, but I was kinda remorseful about buying this one.

I watched Leon the night before and that was like heaven... Fifth Element right before it yesterday, and that wasn't bad.

Maybe I'll give it another shake sometime.

Just finished it.

The 1st 45 minutes were a little MEH. The city was a little over contrasty. It gets better once they reach the boat though. And takes a major turn when the tribe offers the girl up to Kong and everything is fire just looked absolutely rediculously good with the fire and the blacks. From there, it looks very good. The Cgi I thought was really good. The ending in NYC looked incredible for what the source was and holds up to some of the best stuff we see today with the city shots from above. U really can't go wrong here. A huge surprise after the first 40 minutes.

the sharpness and detail are so good I still wonder if it's a new scan of some sort.

There's nothing wrong with the disc. SDR conversion is what it is.

Odd then that I've watched approx 40 or so UHD titles on my setup and never had SDR conversion issues. I've got a Sony X850B hooked up to an Xbox One S. There isn't any adjustments for HDR to SDR conversion. I've also never had to adjust my settings to improve image quality whether it was UHD, Bluray, Netflix and so on. If this disc has issues on non HDR displays then thats ridiculous.

I'd complain to Microsoft to add a hdr>sdr adjustment to give you more flexibility.

The CGI in the stampede sequence showed its age on 4K. Thought it looked much fake and evident.

It wasn't great, but I've seen worse. Go pop in the original Jurassic Park and have good laugh /cry at how awful it looks lol the rest though was solid.

What's ridiculous is complaints from people with non-HDR sets.

OK so Universal revisionism continues: when Blu-ray came out they decided DNR was great because people didn't want to see film grain... Now with UHD, they crank up HDR because people want colors to pop.

Worst studio in the business by far...

IMO the use of HDR on the Mummies is nothing like as extreme as Velvet makes it out to be, Mummy 1 looks incredible, NOT in a colour popping way (the colour is markedly LESS saturated than the shitty old Blu) but in a gorgeously natural film-like way.

It sure would be nice if you naysayers would actually look at these things before commenting on them.

HDR isn't used to make colors "pop"

And it isn't bad like you think it is. It's stuff like a torch being sharp and bright against blackness.

The CG in Jurassic Park is still solid. If anything looks wonky it's the stiff movement of some of the animatronics IMO.

People have been complaining about that since the theatrical release. 4K didn't do anything new to make it look worse.

I thought it looked much worse on 4K because of the HDR. Its passable on BD though.

P.S People have been not only complaining about that particular moment but for the most part the film itself so its not news to me.
