Tarantino = Overrated??

I have a great deal of respect of Tarantino in terms of film knowledge, and it is hard to argue that he is not a truly unique director. However, I am not a fan of any of his films. While he is a unique director, it is hard for me to get over his extensive borrowing from other films. Yes, I'm aware that sounds contradictory, but it's not--he is the only director who borrows so extensively but then is able to successfully combine all of the disparate elements into one film. One can't help but admire his knowledge and passion for film.

Despite my admiration for him, I think he is undeniable overrated. It is "cool" to like Tarantino, and as such, hordes of people jump on his bandwagon. He is in no way a bad director, and when looking at his list of films it is safe to say that he is actually a very good director. But being a very good director and being the "best director ever" and other such proclamations are two very different things. Yes, his films are considered good. But I do not think any of them, including Pulp Fiction, will withstand the test of time the way films like Taxi Driver, Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane, or others have done.
