yeah, I've gotta say all this talk of speaker cables and power cords and 'cookers' is truly going over my head, and is not something I'm interested in. No offense Rich and Rhett, you guys are just fine talking about this stuff, it's just not for me.

That's cool Ice! We're not imposing it on you! And it doesn't make you less of an enthusiast in my eyes if you dont go as eccentric as Rich and I

Ice,

Just do not write off the possibility that cables and "cooked" or burned in cables do not have an affect on the audio and quite possibly the video performance of the system. Keep in mind, this is something to consider once your equipment and system reach a certain level of performance. It is not something for those at the lower end of market to consider.

Well... I finally returnd the acoustic panels that we didn't want. I'm thinking of getting 2 24"x48"(fire resistant material added)panels from Atsacoustics to dampen the noise coming from the utility closet that houses the Water heater and furnace. Its just so loud that inteferes with my HT Has anybody done this?

check out the 'edead' stuff from Elemental Designs. It's pretty cheap, and I bet this would shut that closet up pretty good.

There's a lot of great (sound proofing) information at www.acoustics101.com.

I just framed all that stuff in last fall and even though it has a door it is still next to my HT room. I did use a curtain on the outside of the room and it helps a ton. Although it wasn't very loud. The brand is Eclipse, I think JJ used it in his HT too.

If it's in a small closet like that I don't think I would get anything super nice like panels... you may be able to accomplish what you want with some cheap fire resistant foam.

I need to wrap my PS3 in something to shut it up. It's not loud, but I can still hear it

Rhett, have you considered just using some Dynamat on the inside of the door? Might be an option. Not sure if Dynamat is fire rated or not though?

Initially, we thought a heavy silk curtain will work to dampen the sound. I pleaded with the wife for me to get a curtain that runs the full length of the hallway door but she always wins and the curtain is 6-7inches off the floor. hence there's still sound coming from the closet

Thanks for the infor Ice So you're talking about painting the closet? Firstly, there's not a lot of wall space in the closet as pretty much the whole room is occupied by the furnace and hot water reservoir. The closet though has double doors with grills so the furnace can breath and that's where the noise comes out of maybe I could paint that....

Thanks Dase! I'll look into some cheap fire resistant foam as the 2 fire resistant acoustic panels that are 24"x48"x2 cost about $112 plus shipping-which is not reall bad considering the build quality but I know its just a closet and it doesn't have to be pretty in there so I'll check out the foam.

Hmmm.... Maybe adding a dynamat in the hallway in front of the closet will add to the sound proofing. Thanks Db01.

Thanks guys, I'll take all your ideas into consideration

Rhett, maybe a room divider of some sort, like a couple of panels hinged together, and Dynamat on the back side. Attached to a couple of 2x4's, with small L brackets. The front can be whatever you choose, even some absorbtive, or reflective material, depending on what the room requires. And you could even use some small casters at the base for mobility. Just an idea.

actually I was refering to the press on dampening. Didn't realize the room was so small, and also the door with slats on it. In that case, I don't think you should cover those up.

I'll just go for the big question: Does you system have to be in the basement?

Are the slats really functional or just decorative? The reason I ask is because my furnace is in an enclosed closet with no ventilation and it stays cool.

Unequivocally, YES! We have neighbors upstairs and the C2s will literally shake the building if not on concrete floors.

Lou, the slats/grills are functional as the furnace sucks air in through them. My AC guy said I need at least 2 feet of open grill for it to breath. That's why I wanted to put the 2 feet x 4 feet acoustic panels there.

Ok here are some updated pictures. Sorry, I didn't feel like mounting the panels-I got really lazy after dinner

This is one of the 2 updated wall outlets with a dedicated 20 AMP circuitry-this wall outlet also accepts 20 Amp cord prongs.

Now the center channel finally fits on top of the entertainment center after the TV got mounted. I am thinking about putting the center on spikes/ or experiment with my existing mopads to tilt it up, as I can't use the proprietary Dynaudio stand because with its addition; the center will now obstruct the viewing angle.

Closer view of the center channel. With around 45hrs under its belt, its now starting to sound better and blend in more with the C2s
I still have to reconfigure the entertainment center and ut the AVR 600 where the old center used to be. The tweaks and rearranging never ends, does it??

No, with every day, there is always something new. Hope all is well, and things settle down for a bit. Time for me to call it a night. All the Best!

Thanks Dase I have not had the chance to crank up the volume We've been busy all day entertaining guest from out of town But with the little listening session I was able to dom I am finding that the dialog is so clear and life-like that I can't wait for the SCX to be fully broken-in. Maybe I'll start watching some movies again

So I finally hung 2 of the 5 acoustic panels last night-the coffee series to absorb the sonic reflections on the left wall. After I hung the panel, I was listening to a lot of music and when I checked the time it was 2 AM So I will post pictures tonight.

Here's the picture of the Left wall acoustic panels as promised.

I have been busy all day and just got back from a late-late dinner.

I am also eagerly awaiting the arrival of the THO, Brahma power cord and new mode NAIMl CD5XS by next week. As I said in the previous page, the stars have aligned and the eclipse yesterday must have played a role in this As I just got an unbelievable deal on them.
