What is the obsession with turning everything dark? The Fantastic Four aren't dark, they've never been dark. Why does the movie have to be dark?
Soooo... now instead you're invalidating the bright and colourful 60's era Batman since that wasn't gritty, or what? I'm confused

Look, I know where you're coming from, not two years ago I was in the same seat, and I was shocked at Superman snapping someone's neck, but a lot has happened since then, many interesting discussions have gone by and what it all boiled down to was that if this self-entitlement won out, we would never get new and interesting takes and stories any longer. Everything would be a rehash, we would reach a standstill and just get the same thing over and over and over.
I LOVE that we're seeing the contracted creators take liberties with these properties, not just catering to the, probably in the grand scheme of things, small group of fans, but also to people who have never read a comic book in their life and just want to see a thrilling film.
You will never be able to please everyone, but keeping an open mind goes a long way!

EDIT: To Diesel, this will be my last post on the subject. I will not pursue this any further.

If the film fails, Marvel doesn't automatically get the rights back. But you know what Marvel could do? Offer to buy the rights back. They have the money. They wouldn't even exist as a movie studio if Fox and Sony hadn't licensed X-Men, FF & Spider-Man in the first place and created the current wave of comic book films. So really, Marvel owes both a huge thank you.

BTW I think the film looks fine, and I grew up reading FF.

A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

Love the way the thing looks in that poster, like a real monster.

No, I was saying that Batman didn't just "go dark" one day, like someone decided to take him dark when he was never dark before (like with this movie). He went dark (~70s) because he started dark.

As Diesel requested this will be my last post on it, too.

I see every superhero movie as just another issue, adventure, or episode - some may be light and colorful (like a Justice League animated Christmas episode or a typical Spider-man comic) and some may be dark and nightmarish (like a Justice League animated episode focusing on Darkseid or Spiderman's Kraven's Last Hunt). In the good cartoon shows, they tend to follow up a dark and epic three-parter with something light.

If a comic book movie looks absolutely totally different from their comic book version, then I can just enjoy the movie as a Marvel's What If comic or when comic books get guest writers/artists to do their own interpretation.

As long as these movies are done well, that's all that really matters. As someone mentioned the Schumacher Batmans, if they were good - they would have been awesome even an ode to old school cheesy Batman.

Looks better. I hate the trend of hiding the main characters of a film in the teaser, if you wanted to hide them then the teaser should have just consisted of the logo.

I've liked the trailers so far. I can't tell if the movie is going to be any good or not from them-- I'm at least expecting to like it more than the abysmal films from 10 years ago.

I am iffy on this. I think one of the things Marvel has been successful with is a good balance between serious and fun. This movie so far doesn't look fun. One of the main complaints I have about the The Wolverine is that it is was serious. The X-men movies are serious but there is still some sense of fun there.
Even if this movie is on par with the other Fantastic Four movies I still think this movie will do well enough that it will get a sequel. Besides it seems as though Fox will do a sequel to anything.

I'll admit that the poster looks cool...but its still the F4 in name only. The only reason I want it to make any money is so those responsible get some praise for their work...but more than that, I want Marvel to get the franchise back and do it right.

I honestly liked the new trailer. It had personality. While not perfect, it looks better than anticipated, and I love that cast. I can't wait to check it out.

+1 bud. While it did err a bit on the "generic" side, I loved really seeing all of their personalities, and it doesn't look so relentlessly depressing. That said, I really do hope the body-horror hard sci-fi elements don't get lost in the editing room. Maybe they should have switched the trailer releases. This one is a lot friendlier than the first, but I enjoyed both.

Kate Mara seems great in this too - she has the edge, toughness, and attractiveness that's been missing in an actress like Kristen Stewart.

These comic book adaptation threads are like a sociological study in people who can't handle change.

P.S. The trailer looked kind of bland, but solid. Will probably wait for BD, but looks fun.

That Ben Grimm...wow that looks horrible... I hope it looks a lot better by the time the film is released...

I was really turned off by the film before we ever saw anything...then I was intrigued by the teaser

And now with the trailer there are things I dislike but there's also a lot that I do like

So i'll definitely give this a watch
