Sorry guys but your dead wrong about SONY being king of the hill in terms of PQ. According to the geniuses at HDD SONY was rated below WB, Universal, and Disney.

At least Sony beat Lionsgate... by .5 star...
The site is a complete joke. They haven’t even updated their list of gear in years. |

I thought that was just an artist's rendering. I don't think it's a film still that's been re-rendered.

It's 1K and I wouldn't be against seeing the few minutes of CGI footage redone in 4K, with some of the sorely lacking grain added in. I doubt it'll happen but that render above is certainly nice. |

![]() ![]() Regarding the Ultra HD set boxart: If it is really true they enhanced the t-rex explizitly for this release, I think it is even more shameful they did this for the cover - which is supposed to attract buyers - while not caring about the UHD disc's content to be above 2K. |

Yes it's new key art—not a restored version of the movie—but still uses the original film still with a new Rexy model posed on top of it, which is exactly what one would do anyway when recreating the CGI shots in a film restoration.
And it looks good. That's all I'm saying. The original VFX shots are rendered at 1K and look pretty bad in the new UHD master. Recreate them in 4K and scan the OCN to get a much higher quality version of the film and that'd be an awesome 30th anniversary restoration in a few years. For the purists, include branching sections with original CGI shots; options don't hurt. Last edited by Vangeli; 06-01-2018 at 06:05 PM. |

Hm ok.
BTW are the download codes available for each format, meaning e.g. for "The Lost World", does it have separate download codes for a Full HD and for a 4K download, or can you just download every resolution with one code for each movie? Thanks... |

One 4K code for each movie. At least it's that way in the BestBuy Steelbook.

Jurassic Park IS definitely about the sound more than the picture. Key scenes cause panic and emotion with just a basic image on screen. ie: cup of water resonating from T-rex steps. Of course it is the combination of A/P that make it up however I would say for the key scenes that 60% is accurate on an estimate of how important the sound is for this particular movie. |

I'm in agreeance with Bates (boy, that a sentence you don't hear every day) on the picture. At one point in time, I would agree that sound was just as equally important. If not more so. Now things have changed. Look at music videos for example. Artists that grew up on MTV sometimes are all about the image and aren't the same without it. Without an image, Madonna might not be where she is today. Without an image, Thriller is just a rather generic and bland sounding song.
I think the only thing that saved that song was the music video. That goes for a lot of Michael Jackson's music in my opinion. Sure, sound is important but it is not near as crucial in the storytelling of movies as the picture. Take out the sound of the scene in Jurassic Park when they first see the dinosaurs and you still have amazing storytelling there. When doctor Grant takes off his sunglasses and looks up at the dinosaurs it tells more than anything sound can. And when he moves Elle's head it also tells so much more. An even better example is A Quiet Place. There's a movie that is more effective without sound than it is with. |
