Does anyone have any experience with asking a store to hold onto something for them?
I know this may sound ridiculous, but what you could try to do is hide it somewhere in the store where hopefully nobody else will find it, say behind the Love Boat DVD's or something. Then just come back on the 10th and hope it's still waiting there for you.

Or, you could save about $10 and go this way instead...but I'd get a waterproof bag and hide it in the tank of one of the toilets (pray they use that kind of toilet) because between the employees, the mangers and the cleaning staff, someone will find it anywhere else.

Wanted it sooner than later since this is going to become increasingly hard to find and very expensive in the later weeks.
I bought "The Third Man" on New Year's eve if I recall but it makes me wonder if Amazon will have the Criterions all for $19.99 on Black Friday or the day before/after Christmas or New Year's.

***Btw, slightly off-topic but has anyone happen to create a spreadsheet of all Criterion releases? For their own personal tracking via viewing it on their cell phone? If so, please PM me. I was thinking of creating one but if someone has, would save me a lot of time. ***

Wow, glad I jumped on buying The Third Man from Amazon earlier this week. They just sent me the shipment notification so hopefully that means it won't get cancelled due to them selling out of stock.

I also just noticed that Deep Discount has shamelessly raised their Criterion prices, conveniently right before their November 25% off sale. Douche bags. I was wanting to get a number of Criterion BD's including 400 Blows and Seventh Seal. They've raised the prices on them from $25 to $32.60. This means that when they run the 25% off, it'll barely be under $25...aka what they were charging already in the first place!

This is kind of random and a bit early to start thinking about but I was watching Lars Von Triers "Antichrist" the other day and couldnt believe how amazing the cinematography was in this film. That got me to thinking, Since it's an IFC produced film and Criterion has struck a deal with IFC, is it an automatic that they would release this film as a criterion? I mean, It's certainly a criterion "Type" movie. Artistic, controversial, etc....

I just think Criterion could do amazing things with this release.

The cinematography really is amazing. The opening B&W sequence is hands down one of the best visual sequences I have ever seen. It was the only thing that kept me watching. I need to watch it again, but I may wait and see if Criterion does release it. I would be surprised if they didn't since, as you stated, it is an IFC production.

Not really too steep, crey, when you consider that "Che" is technically two separate films. Also, remember that the films were released separately on blu-ray in the UK, where-as we'll be getting them in one package from Criterion.

I believe Criterion has already stated that they won't be releasing Antichrist.

Well, I don't think anyone in this forum is really showing their enthusiasm & excitement for Che Guevara, the man, and his actions later on in his life. I think more people are excited to be seeing Steven Sodenbergh's film based on the man in the best possible format, which I'm pretty sure Criterion will deliver on.

+1! Downfall is about Hitler and I would consider him far more worse than Che. Plus, I feel Che is a wonderful movie and it was shot in HD, so I'm sure it is going to be beautiful on blu-ray.

I have Fear & Loathing from criterion on DVD. Is there any news about it being released on Blu?

Nope. No news or hint of news for that title being released by Criterion on blu-ray, as of yet.

No one from Criterion has stated either way whether they will release Antichrist or not. [R]etablo is likely remembering or has heard about this article from The Playlist:
Quote:
IFC – "A Christmas Tale" and "Gomorrah" – both coming in November – are just two titles in a twelve-picture deal with IFC. While Mulvaney was mum on the other films in the works, we can tell you ["]Antichrist["] will probably not be one of them, but let's not forget "Che" is an IFC film in case you had any doubts that the "rumors" weren't true.1
I doubt if they'll release it, considering they released Trier's Europa recently and that was his second film in the Collection. As others have said in different contexts, Criterion have many directors to choose from and they need to concentrate on putting out a variety.

I figure holding off on Lang's M or any of the Kurosawa titles since those would be obvious choices, but what about titles like VAMPYR or THIEF OF BAGDAD? I already own TOB as a burned disc, but absolutely love the movie and wouldn't mind showing my support by buying the DVD. The only trouble is that the film would look breathtaking in 1080p, so I'd hate myself for buying it only to have a BD come out the next 6 months.
Known to be in the works, but not announced:

Picnic at Hanging Rock
Walkabout

Highly probable, IMO:

Amarcord
Beauty and the Beast
Brazil
Diabolique
High & Low
The Lady Vanishes
M
Seven Samurai
Vagabond
Yojimbo/Sanjuro
